The island can be paradise or a wintery, cold hard existence. The key to how the nomad experienced this existence was within her own heart. Through the story, of the nomad I was attempting to rekindle within each of us the memory of our true selves. There is a spiritual child who resides in each of our hearts.

We are all children of the Father and Mother. We were created in the image of the One Creative Source. Just like in the story, we have a Mother Wind. She is the Spirit that speaks to each of us, nurturing and guiding us through our maturation process. Just like the story, we have a Father Sun. He is our creator and the Source of all power. Created in that image, our spirits are as free as our Mother, the wind and our creative potential is as powerful as our Father the sun.

We still have some growing to do, though. To whom much is given, much is required. If we have vast spiritual potential, then we must learn to harness that potential and use it correctly. With that in mind, the Great Creative Source provided a proper training ground for the children of the Divine. Our wild, free nomadic spirits were confined to a little green island in the vast indigo sea of the universe. Our Father and Mother have placed us in this reality, this small physical realm, to learn lessons for eternity.

Unfortunately, in the transit from spiritual to physical beings it is difficult to hold on to the full Knowledge of the Divine within us. We are spirit children in a human world. There are so many dimensions that are a part of us, are all around us but are difficult to manifest in this realm. Like watching a subtitled movie, there is subtle information that is lost in translation.

At birth, our spiritual eyes are open to all realities. As little children, many of us have eyes that still see. I still have dim memories of talking to angels and visiting the star children. But slowly the memory dims. We begin to accept the limitations of this physical realm as our own. We take on the burdens of this existence. In the process, we lost paradise. This is the story of Adam and Eve. The story is the story of all humankind. Spirits....immortals...who accepted chains of mortality by looking for answers in what was around them instead of what was within them.

Once we place the burden, the limitations of the physical world on our shoulders, it is difficult to remove. We are like birds with clipped wings and we have clipped them ourselves. Instead of soaring to the Sun on the currents of the Wind, we are grounded in this existence. All we see are the clouds.

One of the great lessons of this journey is to learn how to fly again in a world governed by gravity. We are to discover how to live in the limitless potential of God within the limited, confines of this reality. It is easy to fly in paradise where all is free and light and beautiful. It is much harder to fly in this heavy dense atmosphere. But we must learn. It is the essential lesson of our time here in this training ground.

Luckily, our Father and Mother have given us the tools we need to once again ascend past the clouds. There are three tools - Faith, hope and Love. The greatest of these is Love because God is Love. First we must have faith to believe we ARE the children of God. We must look beyond the physical. Look past the clouds and get a glimspe of Father Sun. We must remind ourselves that we were meant to soar in the heavens...not plod along the ground.

Next, once we are strengthend by faith, we can hope again. We can test our wings and strengthen them daily. Hope is keeping our eyes on the sky not looking at the ground. Hope is opening up the wings of our spirit and waiting for Mother Wind to take us up in a current of the Spirit up into the sky.

Lastly, once we have remembered who we are and strengthend our wings again, we must live as children of the Spirit. We live in Love. We become one with Love. We are Love. We fly!

Our Mother, the Wind of the Holy Spirit, is our tutor. She came to teach us the lessons. She whispers quietly to our spirit like a warm, gentle wind soothing our souls. She tells us to let go of our worries. Do not accept the burdens of this world. Instead, have faith in who you are - a child of the Great One. Hold on to the hope of what you can be - your infinite potential. Lastly, allow God's Divine Love to flow through you and soar above the clouds. Soar into the Sun on the currents of the Wind.

Listen, now to the song our Mother is singing to each one of us, Her Children.

It is a song of Faith, Hope and Love

Scripture

14Yeshua said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." 15When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there....23Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." 25When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, "Who then can be saved?" 26Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

Matthew 19: 14-26

23" (Yeshua said,) "Everything is possible for him who believes."

Mark 9:23

Final Thought

It is a challenge to find the inner spirit child through the clouds of reality. Sometimes the clouds get so thick that it is a dense fog all around us. Have faith.

Cultivate within You Seeds of Hope

In order to even consider going through a doorway, one must first see that it is there. How many doorways have you missed in your life? How many would you have gone through if you had seen them? How would your life have been different if you had walked through some of those doors?

A few gifted souls are very adept at discerning the open doorways provided to them. She had once been a wild nomad who roamed freely on an island paradise. That carefree existence ended, however, when she was exiled to the cold, dark land of the giants. In this dismal new existance, she carried many heavy burdens on her back. The burdens slowed her down but she was not overcome by them because though she was small, she was very sturdy. Yes, she occasionally had to pause to shift the weight on her shoulders, but she would lift her head high, pull her dark curls out of her eyes, take a deep breath and trudge on.

Onward she plodded...ever onward. She refused to stop her journey because she carried a hope in her heart. She hoped to somehow return to the land of her childhood and find her paradise again. She thought that if she could find her way back, the burdens would evaporate. Then she would be free, full of joy and light-hearted again. Not too light, of course....not so light that she could fly. The little stranger had once believed she could fly. She knew better now. That had just been a little girl's dream. It had seemed very real at the time but, of course. it was not. Noone can fly. A strange thing happened, though, once she understood that she could not fly, she stopped dreaming about flying.

Still, even if she could not fly, she would be content just to walk the beaches of her island once more. She would not mind being bound to the earth if she could just be free of the burdens and warm and happy inside again. That was why she continued wandering aimlessly along the rocky terrain of this foreign land. She had no directions, no map but she had a hope. So she kept walking and kept looking. She was searching for something familiar....the smallest sign that she was getting closer to her goal. She looked in every direction but there was nothing. Everything in the land of the Giants was grey and cold and hard. There was no tropic sun...only clouds and mist. There were no gentle tradewinds...only icy, cold blasts that stung her face. But she continued on bravely and kept searching.

The more she wandered, the more lost she became. She met others along the way and asked them if they knew the way to her island. They were no help. They were just as lost as she was. Some were giants and some were strangers like herself. Everyone went their own way for there were no paths to follow. Sometimes a few lost souls would try to band together but these unions never succeeded. Even when traveling in groups, everyone was alone. Everyone carried burdens that were so large and cumbersome that they prevented any closeness.

One day while she was trudging onward, the little stranger began to wonder if there might be another way. She had following the same course of action for so long with no result in sight. But what else could she do? She knew her island was not behind her because she has already been that way.

Staying in one place would not help her get any further. Resting was not an option in the land of the giants. The little stranger knew the dangers of resting. The giants warned her that those who rest are lost forever. She had seen it with her own eyes. Strangers would be overcome and decide that they did not want to participate any more in this wearisome journey. The moment they stopped, they suddenly disappeared and were never seen again. It was as if they mysteriously evaporated into nothingness.

As the little stranger was pondering her options (or rather, her lack of options) tears came to her eyes. She was so used to tears by now that she did not even notice they were there until she tasted the salt in her mouth. She thought about the days long ago before she knew how to cry. She thought of one very special night when she flew into the heavens and met star children. She remembered how she had felt a part of them....the joy of belonging to a greater whole. It was the first and only time in her life that she KNEW she was a part of something bigger than herself. She found her place in the universe and was enveloped in its love.

Her soul ached to commune with the heavens again. Then she remembered that the night with the star children was only a dream. It had to be a dream because little girls cannot fly. She felt more alone and isolated than ever.

At that moment, she cried out without words. It was not her voice crying. Her soul was crying for her. "Father...Mother...Help me."

A small, still voice answered her cry softly....ever so softly. It sounded like the faint rustle of leaves in a gentle breeze. She thought she recognized the voice but she could not quite make out what it said. She listened harder.... Where is it coming from? She looked around. No one was there. She listened again to try to find the direction of the voice. It whispered lightly. The voice was soft, peaceful...so soft that even her own footsteps drowned it out. She was so mesmerized by the sound that she did something she would never normally do. She stopped walking and stood very still to hear the voice.

Once she stopped moving she could hear what it said. It whispered quietly, " There is a Way." The hope inside her grew stronger because now she could recognize the voice. It was the same voice that would call to her each morning when she lived in paradise. It was her Mother, the Wind. As soon as she recognized the voice she felt a familiar warm glow flow over her. For whenever Mother Wind calls, the presence Father Sun is near by.

"Mother, is that you? Where have You and Father been? Mother Wind replied we have been right here all along. The little stranger was perplexed. " Why have I not heard you before? Mother Wind reminded the little stranger that she had alway heard her Mother and Father best when she was resting quietly and it had been a long long time since the nomad had stood still. The nomad then remembered that she had stopped moving and yet she had not disappeared. Maybe the giants were wrong? Maybe standing still was actually the way to paradise?

The little stranger looked around expecting to be on her green island again but all was grey and cold. "Mother...Father....where are you? Where is the Way?" She looked all around herself searching for a path to reveal itself. The voice said, "No, you are looking in the wrong direction...what you see was created by lost souls. Our Way is different you can not see it with your eyes. You must see it with your heart. Close your eyes....look with your heart."

She closed her eyes and saw an open door filled with light. But her heart was wounded and it's vision was no longer pure. She could only see fuzzy outlines in the light. Mother Wind reminded the little nomad that the wounds were there only because she chose to retain them. "Let them go, little nomad. Do not accept them any more" The little nomad asked, "How can I ever let them go?". She had tried before but the wounds kept returning. Mother Wind sighed one word. "Forgive" The little nomad opened up her heart and let the word enter in. She forgave the giant who first wounded her heart. She forgave everyone and everything that had ever given her pain. The wounds melted away in a sea of forgiveness. No scar remained and her vision returned.

The light became golden sunshine and the fuzzy outlines were the palm trees and ocean of her lovely little green island. It was still there just the same as she remembered in her dreams. Were they dreams....or reality...or was reality the dream? She had to know. She asked Mother Wind, Please tell me...tell me...am I dreaming?

Mother Wind said, "The island and the land of the Giants are both reality and both illusions at the same time." For you are standing in the same place you were before. The only thing that has changed is your heart.

Then the little nomad walked through the doorway into the light. She never to returned to the land of the giants because now she knew the secret. Where we live is our choice.

"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."

Psalm 46:10

14The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

1 Corinthian 2:14
3"Blessed are the humble in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven

Matthew 5:3

"The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, 21nor will people say, 'Here it is,' or 'There it is,' because the kingdom of God is within you."
Luke 17:20-21

Closing Prayer

Mother and Father call to us today. She was small but strong and sturdy. Her skin was a golden sun-kissed brown. She had dark curls, light blue eyes and a heart full of adventure. She lived on a small green island in the middle of a deep blue ocean. The island was a magical land where there was no winter. Here the little nomad spent her days climbing cliffs, ambling along beaches and running through sugar cane fields. Her playmates were geckos and iguanas. When she was hungry, she picked bananas that hung upside down on the trees or broke off a piece of sugar cane and sucked out its sweetness. When she became tired, she stretched out on the warm sand while the tide creeped up the shore line and tickled her feet.

Sometimes there were rainstorms but this did not trouble the little nomad. She viewed each new experience as a gift. The storms brought pleasures that could never be found in the sunshine. The clouds filled the days with cool dark mystery. The rain washed everything new and clean including the nomad who would run out into the wetness with her arms spread out as if trying to embrace the sky. She would lift her face and let the rain wash over her. Even the stormy seas brought no fear to this pure heart. As the waves pounded against the shore, she felt only awesome exhilaration. No matter what the day brought forth, it always began with joy and ended with peace because the little nomad's heart created her paradise.

There were other inhabitants on the magic island. Some were small like the nomad, some were giants. Some lived in paradise and others did not. Our little nomad paid scant attention to any of the others...even the giants. She walked amongst them without fear. Two of these giants claimed to be her parents. She let them believe whatever they wish but she knew better. She was not a child of their world.

Her mother was Wind and her father was Sun. Each morning her Father would plant a warm kiss on her head and her Mother would caress her. Then they would whisper softly in her ear. They would say, "Come, little one, discover the wonderful gifts we have prepared for you this day." They would smile as they watched little nomad spring up from her rest and seize the day that was offered to her. The nomad knew how to wring every bit of goodness out of her days. Oh, but that was just the beginning... Yes, that was just the beginning. After the days were done, then came the nights. The nights were even better than the days. You see, nomads never sleep. Giants sleep because they do not live in paradise. Giants are heavy and tire easily. Their world is heavy and burdensome and they carry those burdens all day. So, at night they must sleep. While the giants slept, the little nomad went on her greatest adventures.

There was something about the night air. It was apparently lighter than the air of the day. During the night, the little nomad was able to lift her feet off of the ground and not have them come back down. Then as easily as taking a step, her body would float up into the air and go wherever she wanted. She could fly. She would soar up high into the sky until her little island was just a tiny green circle in a field of indigo. Then she would gently drift down and take a tour from above of her beloved beaches, cliffs, palm trees and sugar cane. Sometimes she would visit other lands but only the paradise lands of other nomads...never the land of the giants.

Oh, and how she loved flying! The little nomad loved lots of things. She loved everything, actually, but she loved flying most of all. Flying was the only time that she felt like her true self. She was free. So each day as evening approached, she would anxiously await the moment that she became light...lighter than air...and soar up into the heavens.

Then came the day that she made the terrible mistake.

It started out like any other day. The Sun kissed her and the Wind hugged her shoulders and set her out on her path of discovery. But there was a giant in the way. That is when she made the fatal error. Now, there had been other days that giants came into her path but she really never acknowledged their presence. She just politely ignored them and went on her way. This day was different. This day she stopped and spoke to the giant. That is when all the trouble began.

It is understandable really. She was distracted. She was not thinking about what she was doing. You see, the night before the little nomad had gone on her best flight ever. She had soared higher in the sky than ever before. In fact, she flew so high that she met some of the star children. She was awed by their beauty. Then she stopped in mid-flight. She recognized something in them. There was a resemblance to herself. Something there was like looking in mirror. It was not superficial. It was something genuine and deep. Ah, Yes, they shared the same hearts. When she saw their hearts, she recognized they were her family.

It was then, at that moment that she understood what it really meant to be a nomad. A nomad is someone who is just passing through, traveling in time and gathering experiences. The truth came to her in a flash...she was not a permanent resident of the island. Though she loved her island, she did not belong there and someday ...someday...she would break loose and fly forever. Oh, what a wonderful feeling it is when you discover you are a star child...to finally know what it means to be a daughter of Sun and Wind and at one with the heavens.

She did not want that night to end. However, this little nomad still had many journeys left to complete. So she had to say good-bye to her kindred spirits. Dawn came and she drifted back down to her temporary abode on the island. But her mind was still in the heavens. That morning she was basking in the warm glow of her new knowledge. The joy was filling her heart to overflowing and she wanted to share it with someone. Then she noticed the giant in the path. He was the one who thought he was her father. She thought to herself, "Maybe I should share my news with him. Since he believes he is my father, he will be so happy for me."

So she said to him, "Guess what! I flew to the heavens last night and found where I belong!" She smiled an innocent smile and waited for him to share her excitement. That was her fatal mistake. She did not know that giants will never understand what it is like to be a nomad. This giant was no exception. He turned towards her with a patronizing look on his face. He smiled a cynical evil smile and said, " Silly little girl, you can't fly. No one can fly. You were dreaming. "

For the first time in the little nomad's life, she felt pain. The sharp words cut into her spirit like a knife. She wondered why his words had never hurt before. Then she remembered that she had never listened to them before. She pulled the words out quickly but the wound was still there and the wound left a scar of doubt.

The doubt nagged at her. She thought to herself that the giant was the silly one. Of course she could fly. She KNEW she could fly. She flew every night. But the doubt kept aching in her. What was a dream? What was a dream? That was a word she had never heard before.

It was the doubt that caused the little nomad to make the second mistake. She asked the giant, "What is a dream?'. He smiled his evil cynical smile again. He looked at her with his cold eyes. He was happy. He saw the wound he had created. Now he would go for the kill. He wanted to take the burden off of his back and throw it on her small shoulders. He said, " Are you so stupid that you don't know what dreams are?? Well, dreams are pretend stories in your head. They are not real. Dreams happen when you sleep."

The little nomad breathed a sigh of relief. Now, she knew that she did not dream because she did not sleep. She was a nomad. Her eyes were always awake. She thanked the giant politely and went on her way. She would not be so relieved if she had know what had happened. The giant had thrown his burden at her and it had stuck. He did not get the relief he was hoping for, though. In fact, the giant felt even heavier when he left the nomad. Evil does not lessen itself by being given to others. It only multiplies.

That night the little nomad waited to become light and float up into the atmosphere. It took longer than usual and was not as free and easy. For the first time, she had to work at flying. She never flew as high again after her talk with the giant. This troubled her. The trouble created more worry and weighed her down even more. The more she was weighed down, the harder it was to fly. The difficulty flying at night would cloud her days. Her journeys had less joy.

Each day there seemed to be a few more clouds between her and Father Sun and a little more chill in Mother Wind. Their voices were not quite as clear as they had been in the past. At the same time, the giant's voices grew louder and more distinct. No matter how hard she tried, it became more and more difficult to ignore the giants. She would catch herself hearing a few phrases of their conversations before she could tune them out. Once she heard a giant say, "Pinch me so I can tell if I am dreaming." and the words pricked at the scar of doubt in her heart.

She would tell herself, " I know I am not dreaming, I know I am not dreaming". But what if there was a way to prove she was not dreaming? Wouldn't that be wonderful to have proof? Then the doubt would be gone forever. So she made the third and final mistake. She tried to use the logic of giants to prove the reality of the star children. That night she went on what would be her last flight for a long, long time. It was very difficult to raise her body off the ground. When she did manage to get up into the air, it was only for a moment or two and then she was back down....more like super long jumps than flying. During one of these jumps, she thought , "I will pinch myself now. If I feel the pinch, I will know this is real." She pinched herself. Her fingers went through her arm like going through air and she came tumbling down to the ground. She got up and tried to fly again. Nothing happened.

Something wet and warm formed in her eyes. Her vision blurred. The wetness ran down into her mouth. It was salty and sad. The little nomad tasted her first of many tears. The tears turned to snow and the nomad experienced her first winter. The island became white with snow. There was no more sugar cane. The palms turned into pines and white birches. The ocean became cold and uninviting. Even in summer it turned her lips blue. Her beloved beach turned rocky and craggy.

It would be many many years before the nomad would fly again. First she would have to wander in the land of the giants and carry their burdens. She never became one of them and that made the burden even heavier to bear. Don't worry. The story does have a happy ending. She will find her paradise again....right where she left it...inside her own little wounded heart. Stay tuned.

20Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Yeshua replied, "The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, 21nor will people say, 'Here it is,' or 'There it is,' because the kingdom of God is within you."

Luke 17:20-21

8Blessed are the pure in heart,
      for they will see God.

Matthew 5:8

Father and Mother, let us look in our hearts today, remember again who we are.

and soar like eagles

Amen

It is the place in which Wisdom resides. It is the throne of God...the seat of the presence of the Divine. A fountain of living water flows out from the throne bringing healiing and life. Father God...the Source of All...is the one on the Throne. Our Holy Spirit Mother is the fountain flowing from the Father making the Source...the Wisdom of God... available to all. Yeshua said that those who drink from this fountain will thirst no more. One does not have to travel far to find this place. It is in close proximity to every person all the time. The throne of God is within everyone of us. WE are the temple of the living God. Our spirit is one with the Spirit.

Each one of us was created in the image of God and a spark of the Divine was instilled in our spirit. God is there, readily available within each of us all the time. Yet, man rarely avails himself of this Wisdom. Humanity has contented itself with occasional glimpses of the Divine. In fact, momentary flashes of perception are often treated with suspicion rather than accepted as Wisdom from the throne. We are suspicious because we have been told a lie for thousands of years. Power hungry people have place themselves in positions of authority by making others believe that God is not readily available.

By pretending to provide exclusive access to God, religious leaders throughout history have been able to hold firm control over their congregations. As children of the Divine, it is our nature to want to commune with our Father and Mother. Fear of permanent separation from God, motivated the masses to provide offerings, favors and unending service to the religious elite. So the people were told that God only lived in temples or on specific religious sites. The priest were the only conduit...the only access to God's presence.

This was not the Divine plan. In fact it was not even truth. The original Essenes separated themselves from the religious authority of their day precisely because they refused to believe the lies. They did not accept the Priesthood or temple worship. They continued instead to individually seek a personal knowledge of the Divine known as the Way.

Once an elite upper class has established power, however, is difficult to fight them. The lies that are perpetrated to keep them in control, become irrefutable and accepted as fact. Yeshua's mission was to bring humanity back to a personal relationship with their Mother and Father. Through his life, he gave an example for all of us to follow. He called himself Son of Man because he taught that what he did was available to every human being. He said, " I and my Father are one".

So, too, we all are one with the Father. The Light, the Knowledge, the Wisdom is within us all. But too often, we wall off the temple of God within us and do not access ourselves to the treasures provided there. We have only ourselves to blame. As Yeshua described in the story of the prodigal son, we separate ourselves from our Father and do not listen to our Mother. It is our own choice to go after the things of this world... the rational physical realm...rather than feast at the table of God.

Most people today want to validate their "hunches" with rational data. They are not comfortable drinking freely from the fountain and eating at the table of Divine knowledge. We have separated ourselve because we have been told a lie...we have been told that we must find our own way. Our Father and Mother are still waiting for us, though. They are ready to take us back. Yeshua's mission was to help all the lost souls wandering along the various paths and guide them to the Way. Yeshua reminded us the search is over. The Father is here. The Way is within us. No wandering needed. At the death of Yeshua, they say that the veil in the temple that separated the holy of holies was torn from top to bottom. The symbolism was that now every man had access to God's presence.

The truth was that the veil was an illusion created by man. Man always had access. The separation was his own. Instead of being content with flashes of light peeking out from the veil, we can live in the light. We do not have to wander down any paths. Just be still. The temple is within. Listen and KNOW

.

As you watch the video and isten to the music, quiet

your heart. Listen with your spirit for the the still small voice of the Spirit. The beginning of this century brought huge natural disasters -tsunamis, hurricanes, tornados, volcanos, floods and other severe weather. There were man-made disasters as well - the world trade center bombing, the many terrorist actions, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the real estate crisis and the financial banking collapse to name just a few.

History reminds us, though, that turbulent times are part of the natural cycle. To everything there is a season. Our Father and Mother God have created consistent natural laws. Just like the cycle of human life, civilizations go through cycles of birth, growth, destruction and death. Nature, too, goes through its seasons. Each season has its own storms. After each storm, however, there are also periods of calm and sunshine. Here in Northern Arizona, we recently had an ice storm. It stormed all night long. The ice pelted down on the mesa and the wind blew in angry gusts. Power lines were torn down by the weight of the ice. Bushes blew across the roads. The next morning, however, the sky was clear and all was quiet. The sun rose over the mountains in a blaze of orange and pink. It shone so brightly on the icy snow that it dazzled the eye.

That sunrise was my winter rainbow. My heart was filled with calm joy and the peaceful awareness that all was well. At that moment I knew I was exactly where I was supposed to be in life. Rainbows are the promise that better times are coming. Rainbows are the knowledge that there is a reason...that "all things work together for good." And rainbows are everywhere. Rainbows can be made at will. Just shine some light through water and from the right vantage point, a rainbow will appear. In the storms in your life, whatever they are, shine God's light...Divine awareness...through the rain. Then if you have the right viewpoint, you will be able to discern the rainbow. Once you master the ability to see that rainbow, you can weather any storm. Serious illness. Disease. Accidents. Catastrophes. Unemployment. Lost retirement savings. Death. Loneliness. Hardships. Personal problems.

Point of view is very important in seeing rainbows. You have to have the right vantage point...to look at the situation from the right angle. Move a little in the wrong direction and the rainbow disappears. Yeshua says one must be standing on a rock... a strong foundation... to weather a storm. Without the foundation, you will waver too much and the rainbow will keep disappearing from view.

A couple of weeks ago, I was made aware of the importance of viewpoint and foundation when I started reading the book, Night. Night is a work by Elie Wiesel. It is an autobiographical account of his experience, as a young Orthodox Jew of being sent with his family to the German Concentration camps of Auschwitz and Buchenwald. This book had come highly recommended to me and I was looking forward to reading it. However, it was so dark and depressing that I had to stop. I could not finish it. The recurring themes were Mr Wiesel's increasing disgust with mankind and his loss of faith in God.

Now, I suppose with all the horrifying situations Mr Wiesel had to endure, he was certainly justified in his feelings. However, his feelings were not inevitable. He did not HAVE to feel the way he did. His feelings were a choice of viewpoint. I have read other works by survivors of the Holocaust who choice a very different vantage point. Corrie Ten Boom wrote of her experiences in the book, The Hiding Place. She was a Christian who was sent with her family to a German concentration camp for hiding Jews from the German Army. She found a purpose for her life and a renewed faith in God during her time in captivity.

Dr Viktor Frankl was a successful Jewish psychiatrist from Austria. Like Mr Wiesel, he and his family were sent to Auschwitz. He wrote of his experiences in "Man's Search for Meaning." It is an incredibly uplifting book. His entire family perished in the concentration camp. When it seemed that everything had been taken from him, Dr Frankl found the rainbow in the midst of the storm. He realized that he had the singular power to choose his own attitude and no one could take that away from him. He chose not to hate and he chose to hope. He chose to survive.

Storms rarely announce their coming. Storms of life come with swiftness and can be devastating. They are unpredictable, capricious and create all sorts of debris. Survival depends on the right foundation and the right attitude. Only then will you have the vantage point to see the rainbow....the promise hidden in the midst of the storm.

Song of Celebration

Time is relevant but in this culture we are celebrating the end of a difficult decade and the hope of new beginnings. As we look for the rainbow today, I have selected a song from my old home - Hawaii.

The singer, Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole, was a symbol of hope to native Hawaiian people.

Enjoy and share the joy of this video.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Closing Prayer

Blessed are You, Lord our God,

King and Queen of the universe

who have chosen us as Your children

taught us Your holiness,

Sheltered us through the storm,

Set us on a firm foundation,

and given us the promise

of the rainbow.

Amen

Finally, Happy New Year - 2010

May you have a very Happy, Healthy and Peaceful New Year...and Find the Rainbows

Interestingly enough, most scholars do not believe that Yeshua Ha'Mashiach (Jesus the Messiah) was born on December 25th. The actual birth date of Yeshua was lost to antiquity. The early followers of the Way did not celebrate Yeshua's birth. Early Christians believed the celebration of anyone's birth was a pagan custom. Since the date of Yeshua's birth was not significant to them, it was forgotten for all time.

The first Christmas celebrations began several centuries after Yeshua's death. Many beleive the December 25th date was chosen as a deliberate substitution for an existing celebration of the birth of the sun god, Saturn. Others believe it was a substitution for pagan winter solstice celebrations. Because of these pagan connotations, the Puritans refused to celebrate Christmas. Many strict fundamentalist Christian groups still refuse to celebrate Christmas. This attitude is unfortunate because it detracts from the greater message.

The dead of winter is an excellent time to celebrate a great Light revitalizing the world. As one reads the scriptures above, one can not help but realize that the message of Yeshua was fundamentally a message of light and hope. If the actual date of his birth is unknown, why not choose the darkest coldest time of the year? Winter is a time that celebrations of light flourish in other cultures why not use it to celebrate the coming of great light for Mankind? Light shines brightest in the darkness.

Man has a primal attraction to light. It is set deeply within our circadian rhythm to awaken with the sun and retreat from the darkness. One of our greatest discoveries was how to make fire. When mankind mastered fire, he had the ability to warm the cold and light the physical darkness of this world. Mankind has also searched for the same type of "fire" in the spiritual plane. Since the beginning of creation and our life on this earth, we have awaited the light of the seasons by searching for the spiritual light. In the dark of winter, we have chosen hope over despair...hope that a better season is coming...through celebrations of light. Throughout history we have celebrated new light in the winter solstice. The many winter festivals of light range from the Druids, to the Roman Saturnalia, to the miracle of light at Hannukah. So why not also celebrate the Holy Child of Light's birth in the midst of winter darkness?

By celebrating Yeshua's birth, we are recognizing that light is more than the Sun. True light cannot be measured in kilowatts and amps. Light is a metaphor and it is a metaphor that our soul truly seeks. Light is knowledge. Light is life. Light is light....light is God within us. Light is the real gift of Christmas. Light is our true identity. That is what Father and Mother God gave mankind with Yeshua's birth. We were given the chance to know our true selves.

A different and illuminating gift for each of us this Christmas would be the ability to understand this true identity...the light of God within. We are spirits encased in physical bodies. As spirits in matter, we were placed in this physical creation to learn and grow. As citizens of creation, we have experienced and uncovered the secrets of form and matter, learning to create at a very fundamental level. Like children in a sandbox who form replicas of castles, we have been learning through the tools our Parents have provided in this playground. But we have been removed for so long from our spiritual origins that many of us have forgotten our true identity. Luckily, our Mother and Father graciously provide us with reminders. These reminders may only be a moment, a teacher, a word, a phrase, a picture or a sudden spiritual insight that allows us a fleeting glimpse into our true identity. In those moments, we remember we have the light within.

Yeshua was sent as the greatest reminder of all. He was the Light from above sent to reveal light is available to each man and woman. He reminded us are made in the image of the Mother and Father. We are light...like the great encompassing Light. Our mission is to be beams of light carrying information into the world, influencing and affecting all that we contact. This year, as Christmas comes and goes again, let us not forget the real message behind all the Christmas lights. Let us think differently. Let us recognize and identify that we are in fact a rainbow of light, and that within our light are specific tasks, purposes, behaviors, abilities and gifts we unconsciously radiate upon each other and all we contact.

During this season of giving let us realize we are the gifts of Holy Light. Let us shine for each other during our temporary lifetime on this earth. Let us understand our light and what our lights radiate that makes us so holy to one another. Let us shine without fear in this world. Yeshua said that we are not to hide our lights. Don't be afraid to shine.

Many say that they are afraid of failure. I think most people are actually afraid of success. Success means you have to continue to shine..that the world will count on you to shine and that requires a lot of work. It is a lot easier just to go on pretending to be meaningless. Here is a quote that I love from Marianne Williamson that says it all..."We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

So go ahead!! Celebrate the real Christmas spirit and SHINE!

Closing Hymn

Go Light Your World

Final Thoughts

From within or from behind, a light shines through us upon things, and makes us aware that we are nothing, but the light is all. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Light gives of itself freely, filling all available space. It does not seek anything in return; it asks not whether you are friend or foe. It gives of itself and is not thereby diminished. ~Michael Strassfeld

"At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us."
-- Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965) German theologian, musician, philosopher, and physician

Light a Candle in the Darkness

There is one elemental truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans...that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves all. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issue from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of incidents and meetings and material assistance which no one could have dreamed would come his or her way. Whatever you can do or dream, you can begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. We concluded that there is a true Source of Power. The true Power is the One who created us, and is within us. But that is not the end of the line. Like the power lines pictured above, We were not created and planted in this world just to receive power but to also transmit. Today's message discusses how we can recognize, harness and utilize the Power within.

Call to Worship
Click on the title below. These people...the great leaders, spiritual masters, prophets and mighty men and women of the past....were as diverse as humanity. Each had a very individualized mission. Some accomplished miraculous feats against seemingly insurmountable odds. Some imparted great spiritual truths that enriched our minds and souls. Some were martyrs to cause greater than themselves. Some led movements that changed the course of humanity.

All the great ones of history had one trait in common, though. All had great strength of spirit. This spiritual fortitude is so rare in our world that those who possess it seem almost larger than life...like superheros. The Force within them and the inner Light guiding them are so strong that it would be easy to assume that it is a mutant trait....something beyond that available to the average human. However, that is cutting ourselves short. Believing that every human cannot harness the same Force prevents humanity from reaching its full potential. It is the ultimate excuse for laziness.

Each of us....each child of the Mother and Father... has Divine Power and the ability to access that Power. Even before conception, each soul was created in the image of God and gifted with a spark of the Divine. Before birth, a life plan was implanted in each heart. We knew the plan when we arrived on this planet. Unfortunately, there are many distractions in this world. Often we are given wrong messages as we mature and develop. We are told we have no power. Worse yet, we are told that to have power we have to get it from outside sources....money, fame...etc. Sometimes well-meaning souls try to guide us to a plan that is different from the in-born blueprint.

So this is the dilemma that confronts each of us and often blocks us from achieving our full potentia. It is difficult to recognize the Power within us with all the distractions and conflicting messages around us. Without the Power, there is no Light. Without the Light we are unable to see the plan for our lives that has been written by the Hand of God upon our souls. Unable to see the plan, we flounder around in the dark.

There is a better Way. If we are willing, the Mother and Father are anxiously waiting to guide us back to the Power. The steps are easy. They are laid out in the scripture above.

First, we must find the Source and turn on the swith. That requires an investment of time on our part. "The first scripture says that they that wait upon the Lord will renew their strength". The key is to wait. Sit quietly, spend time with God without the world's distractions. Have daily communion with the Mother and Father. During this time, the Holy Spirit Mother will begin to fan that Divine Spark that lies within each spirit. The Power will grow and strengthen our Spirit. It is easy. All that is required of us is time and receptivity.

That leads to the second step. Become a better reciever. My husband is a ham radio operator. He has several recievers on which he listens to different radio signals. Sometimes the recievers get a lot of noise and static that prevent him from hearing the signal. He has had to put special filters in these radios.

The second scripture says the prayers of a righteous man are very effective. The key word is righteous. Righteousness...correct living...is our filter. We best receive and transmit the Power of God when we are righteous. That is why Yeshua hamashiach (Jesus the Messiah) was sent to this world. He came to guide us in the Way. The Way is a path laid out in the scriptures that guides our lives. It is what makes us pure vessels ready to best receive and transmit the Power from the Source.

So far in this message we have found the Source, plugged ourselves in and cleaned up the vessels receiving the power. Now that we have received, it is time to transmit. To whom much is given, much is required. When Mother and Father entrust us with the Holy Power, it is to be used. Faith is the vehicle we will use to share the Power with others. Faith is the transmitter of the power of God. Yeshua said that if we have faith of the size of mustard seed we may move mountains. Faith without works however, is dead. We must act for Faith to move.

If we have our lives centered in the Power, we will naturally be led to the areas in which we are to utilze the Power. In the first scripture it states that those that wait on the Lord will... rise up on wings like eagles. Eagles soar on the currents of the Wind. In the same way, children of the Kingdom of Heaven are led by the wind of the Spirit to exactly where they are to be used.

Our job is to keep our spiritual eyes open so that we will not miss opportunities to share the Power within us. Then when the occasion arises, act in Faith. We know the power is there, we must be brave enough to use it. When someone is in pain, we must comfort them. When someone is hurt, we must heal them. When work is to be done, we must offer our abilities, strength and support, knowing that all that we offered will be amplified by the Power of our Father and Mother.

This all sounds good in the abstract. How do we put it into practical application? That is where the last scripture fits in the picture. Hebrews says Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see and gives the example of God creating the universe out of nothing. The Father and Mother said, Let us create and substance formed out of nothingness. The same Power that created the universe is within us. We, too, can create in Faith.

There is a favorite old saying of motivational speakers. It goes like this, " If you can conceive it and believe it, you can achieve it." That is exactly the method that God used in creating the world and us. It is the same method we can use to harness the Power of God within us. This is true prayer. Prayer is not meant to be a recitation of empty words. In fact, Yeshua warns against repeating empty prayers hoping to be heard because of the many words.

Prayer is meant to be true communion (oneness) with the Father and Mother. It is a time which we recharge from the Source and focus the Power we receive to create positive results.

Let me give you one example from my own life of this type of active, creative prayer. About 10 years ago, I had two rebellious teenage children. They were both engaging in some destructive habits that could have had terrible consequences. Nothing that I said seemed to deter them from this path. I did not give up on them. To give up would be denying the Power the ability to work. I did not worry either. Worrying is an even worse strategy. Worrying would mean that I would be believing and conceiving that bad consquences would result. So I would be harnessing the Power within me and focusing it to create negative results.

Instead, I would visualize each child in my mind, speak their name and tell them I loved them. Scripture says God is Love. So by giving them Love, I am actually accessing the Power of God in their lives. Next I would picture each child as a happy adult pursuing God's paln for their lives. Lastly, I would visualize each child securely standing in the Hand of Father and in my mind's eye I would see the Mother descending upon them as a Dove and wrapping herself around them like a warm blanket. Then I would say, "Amen" which means "So be it."

So each day, that is where I would leave my children...safe in the Hand of the Father and wrapped in the Love of the Mother. That is what I conceived in faith. That is what I believed every day inspite of what I saw in the physical. Finally, slowly, what I conceived, and believed manifested itself in our reality. The rebellious teenagers became responsible adults.

Faith CAN move mountains. We all have been given our own mountains to move. Learning to move them is one of the reasons we have been placed in this creation at this moment in eternity. It is a lesson worth learning. Remember the great ones we discussed at the beginning of the lesson? Think of all that was accomplished in civilization by a few people with the faith to move mountains. Now imagine what this world would be like if human ever created had acted in faith in the same Power. What a beautiful world this would be! On the other side of the mountains lies the Kingdom of Heaven on earth.

Final Thought

I hope that this message has inspired you to seek the Source of Power within you and to access that Power to be a Force for good in this world.

I must warn you though that you will be going against the status quo. The 'normal ones" live lives of "quiet desperation" tossed about by fate. Once you choose to be an agent of change you break from that pack. Many will consider you odd. Some may even call you crazy.

As one who has broken from the pack long ago, I can tell you from personal experience that it is a little lonely out here but definately worth it.

So, Here's to the Crazy Ones!

Closing Prayer

Our Father and Mother in Heaven, around us and within us

Guide us You and fill us with Your Holy Spirit

Teach us to be clean vessels for that Spirit

to keep your Power pure and strong within us

So that we maybe a strong and effective force for You

in this world.

Moving mountains

For Your Kingdom.

For Yours is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory

Forever

Amen

This festival commemorates a victory in 165 BC of a sect of Jewish rebels called the Maccabees. Judas Maccabeus and his followers recaptured the temple in Jerusalem from foreign invaders. During this festival, Jewish families around the world light small candles on a special 9 branched candle holder called a menorah. The lighting of the candles recalls the miracle of a one-day supply of oil that burned in the temple for eight days until new oil could be obtained. That is why the celebration is sometimes called the Feast of Dedication or Feast of Lights.

The celebration is not one of the feasts specified in the Torah to be celebrated until the end of time. It has endured, however, because of its appeal as a message of hope. The message is that a small dedicated group can cause a great miracle to happen. Lighting of candles has always been a symbol of hope and is especially appealing in the dark of winter. Many other cultures have festivals in the fall or winter centered around light or fire. Hindus have their own "festival of lights" called Diwali in which they celebrate the triumph of light over darkness. In Iran, people of many faiths still celebrate Shabe Yalda, the birthday of the sun, in December by lighting bon-fires. Even Christians light advent candles for the 4 weeks that lead up to Christmas. Actually, many Christmas traditions are based on more ancient pagan religions. The pagan winter solstice practices include the Yule log, christmas tree, and lighting candles.

Here on the Hopi reservation, where we live, the Hopi tribe has their own winter solstice traditions. The sun is very important in the traditional agricultural society of the Hopis. They hold a special ceremony during the winter solstice called Soyal. This ceremony is dedicated to giving aid and direction to the sun which is ready to 'return' and give strength to budding life. It lasts for 20 days and includes "prayerstick" making, purification and rituals. At the end of the twenty days, there is a rabbit hunt, feast and blessing.

The ubiquitous nature of mid-winter celebrations of light and hope are a reflection of mankind's primal instinct to exert power over his surroundings. In the darkest time of the year, man seeks to restore light and warmth to his environment through his own actions. The hope is that the correct ceremonies, prayers and sacred fires will cause light, sun and goodness to be restored. We, who have been schooled in modern sciences, may scoff at these beliefs. However, we are not that different.

Even in 2009, humankind still seeks to shape and control the environment. We smugly believe that with the right tools we have the power to ward off any danger. We believe we are the masters of our destiny. We use more sophisticated methods but we are not that different from the ancient culture that built the tower of Babel. The only difference is that instead of building towers to the heavens made of brick and tar, we build retirement plans, 401ks and buy real estate to create our own monument to ourselves. We trust in science and medicine and modern technology to keep us alive, comfortable and safe.

The current economic crisis has shown us the folly of these tactics. In a matter of days, the tower of our financial prowess came tumbling down like a house of cards. The world that we thought we knew changed before our eyes. This is nothing new. It has happened before and will happen again. A few examples in modern history are the great flu pandemic of 1918 - 1919, the great depression of the 30's, Pearl Harbor, Sept 11, 2001. These were all moments when the world as we knew it changed before our eyes.

The truth is that anything made by man is not permanent. Scripture says it is like the grass of the field....here today and tomorrow thrown into the fire. We would like to believe we can build a firm foundation upon our own merit. Yeshua said, however, that is like building a house upon sand. It is an illusion of security. It is not real. Health, finances, loved ones, can all be lost in a moment...like sand sifting through your fingers.

I had a great illustration of this concept last week. A huge blizzard came through Arizona. It was the worst in modern time. The power was out all over this area of the state. Like all of my neighbors, I had no heat, no lights, no communication either by cell phone or land-line. My husband was out of town on business so I did not even have a car. It is 70 miles to the nearest grocery store out here. I was suddenly aware of how dependent I am on my modern conveniences...conveniences that can be lost in a moment. It is a very humbling feeling.

I started making lists of all the things I should stock up on in case this should happen again....one of those things was matches. I did not have a single match in the house to light a candle. My reaction was the normal rational human mode. If I just plan right and get right supplies, I will be OK next time. There is a flaw in this thinking. I do not know if there will be a next time and even if there is, I do not know if the circumstances will be the same. Next time, there could be a flood instead of snow and soak all my matches I buy so that they won't work . The point is that with our finite minds, no one can plan for every contingency. Trying to do so would drive a person batty!

There is an answer and it is a simple one. The clues are in the scriptures above. There is one true Source of Power that will never run out. No storm can stop it. It will never be disconnected. This Source is the Source of all. The scripture says the Lord gives power and strength to those who chose to live plugged in to the Source. Then, in ice storms or financial crisis, the children of God can have no fear. The Father and Mother are with us. Our Lord is the one true Power. In the gospel of Peter, Yeshua is quoted as saying "My Power, My Power, You have forsaken me. Yeshua was one with the Power. The Power is the source of Life. The power had to leave him in order for Yeshua to die on the cross. No harm can come to those who are one with the Divine Power. It is the only true reality. All else is illusion.

Closing Hymn

Today we learned of the one true Source of power in this world. Let's set aside all the illusions now and ask our Father and Mother to guide us back to the real power.

The Power of Your Love

Closing Prayer

This prayer has become very popular across the world. I believe that is because it touches the universal spark of the Divine that is found within all mankind. As you read, make the words into your personal prayer. Allow our Spirit Mother to flow within you so that you leave this service with the true Source of power.

The Great Invocation

It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.
-- Melody Beattie

A thankful heart is not only the greatest virtue, but the parent of all other virtues.
-- Cicero

Thankful Thoughts

The fourth Thursday of November, like most of the U.S., we celebrated Thanksgiving in our home. If you have been following the weekly Sabbath messages, you know that I tried this year to make Thanksgiving a more significant event than usual. Towards this goal, we had fasted for the week prior to Thanksgiving and saved the food we would have eated to contribute to a food pantry. So we actually started our Thanksgiving on the day before by contributing food (and a little money) to the local Salvation Army kitchen.

As we left the Salvation Army office, I thought about years in the past when I had struggled to feed my own family. I remembered one year that the hospital where I was employed surprised the staff with food baskets on Thanksgiving. I had tears in my eyes when I received my basket because until that moment, I wasn't sure how I was going to make a special meal for my kids. Another year, I had just moved to Germany. I moved for a government job and was told the government was going to pay all the expenses. I did not know that I had to front the costs and would be paid back later. It took every penny I had to pay the hotel bill. It was Thanksgiving day the next day. The finance office would not be open until the following Monday. Luckily, I was able to take my travel orders and get my family into the soldier's mess hall for Thanksgiving dinner. I remember how relieved I was to not only have a way to celebrate Thanksgiving but just to have some food to feed my children. As I thought about those past years, I felt very grateful that this year I had the resources to have a nice Thanksgiving meal and also had extra to share with others.

Thankgiving morning, when I woke up, I walked the dogs, as usual. I am not a morning person so usually during these early morning walks with the doggies, I am barely functioning. I do it basically because I know walking is good for my health and if I don't walk in the morning, I often don't get a walk in at all. Also, we have very active pups and they are MUCH better doggies if they get their morning romp. This particular morning, however, I tried to make it a different type of experience. I kept my eyes open to my surroundings. I listened to the quietness around me in the desert mesa. I was appreciative of the pure joy of life expressed by the dogs as the ran and jumped and played. I watched the sunrise over the mountains in all its glory. And, I thought to myself, "Is it always this beautiful?" At that moment, a jack rabbit peaked out from behind a scrubby bush with curious eyes as if to say, "Of course, you silly human, did you just realize that you have been missing out?"

When we returned from the walk, I had my morning coffee and muffin. That muffin was extremely satisfying after a week long fast. I thanked God the first time of many times that day for the joy of good food. After I ate, I sent out Thanksgiving day ecards to all the important people in my life. As I wrote the cards, I tried to be very mindful of the gratitude I felt for that person. I reminded myself of some particular aspect of that person that gave me joy or some moment in my life that the person made an impact.

Next, my husband and I had our dinner. We spent a few moment sharing the items in our lives that we were thankful for. Then we said grace and ate. Somewhere between the stuffing and the pumpkin pie, my mind began to wander. I thought about the contentment of sitting at the table in my warm house with peaceful music playing in the background. I thought about the joy and peace that had been growing in my heart that day. I thought about how good it is to take time to consider the good in our lives. I was reminded of quote I heard long ago. "Thanksgiving is not meant to be a day on the calender. Thanksgiving is meant to be a way of life. "

The happiness alive in my heart at that moment was the culmination of a day spent cultivating gratitude in my heart. Actually, it was the culmination of not just one day but a week of preparation. The week of fasting...doing without...helped me truly enjoy the feast. Deprivation provides the perspective that allows us to enjoy blessings. In the same manner, the difficult times in my past that I recalled now, help make this present so sweet. But only if we can view those difficult times with an attitude of gratitude. That is the key.

I then recognized the Divine wisdom of the Essene Way. Essenes take great care to cultivate a correct spirit within. They begin their day communing with the Mother and ended the day communing with the Father. They believe in creating within their life a seven-fold peace: peace with body, mind, family, humanity, culture, Mother and Father. Being at peace begins with accepting and enjoying life as it is....being grateful for what is, what was and what will be.

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God."

Let us start now to cultivate that attitude of gratitude....the spirit of thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving Invocation

Thank You, Lord

Scripture Reading

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord,
and to sing praises unto thy name, O most high:
To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning,
and thy faithfulness every night
— Psalms 92:1-2

With the coming of the day I embrace my Mother. I received several concerned emails and I want to thank you all for worrying. All is well. Father and Mother simply had different plans for my Sabbath Worship.

I will post the message that I HAD intended for Thanksgiving Sabbath on the next week. In place of the November 27 message, I would like to share with you what happened last week. It all began in the Emergency Department on Friday afternoon (the day after Thanksgiving). An ambulance arrived with an 88 year old frail little lady in severe pain. She was in shock and needed to be flown out immediately for emergency surgery. Later, her 92 year old Hopi husband arrived. He had driven his old pick-up truck. When he was told that his wife was very ill and had been flown out to Flagstaff, he was distraught. He did not normally drive as far as he did that night. A trip to Flagstaff 140 miles away on a major highway was way beyond his ability.

He wanted to be with her but had no way to accomplish the necessary trip. He had out-lived his immediate family. His wife and he had never had children. They were alone in the world and had no one to call on for help. So on a cold bleak winter night, with a storm coming in, my husband and I set off on an unexpected journey. A 92 year old Hopi gentleman whom we had never met before was our travel companion. We arrived at Flagstaff Medical Center just before the first real winter storm of this season.

My husband set off to find hotel rooms for the night. I accompanied our new Hopi friend. We walked to the information desk. The desk was set up on a pedestal and was almost as tall as this 5 foot Hopi elder. He looked so small and fragile standing there that it hurt my heart. His wife was in the Intensive Care Unit. We followed the directions to the unit. I had to gauge my steps to my Hopi friend's slow aged steps. We finally arrived to the door of the unit.

I picked up the phone outside the unit and announced our arrival. The automatic doors opened. I looked around and took in all the sights and sounds...the monitors, and ventilators and IV pumps....the brisk efficient staff carefully managing and surpressing any potential chaos. I smiled in recognition of it all. As a former ICU nurse, this was familiar ground to me. The staff...any critical care staff... are my kindred spirits. The surroundings are home.

Then I remembered my travel companion. I saw the fear in his eyes. His apprehension increased with every step. At that moment, I realized I was not there in that place at that time by happenstance. There was a beautiful Divine logic to this journey. I was there to guide my Hopi friend through the Critical Care world that was so familiar to me but so foreigh and alien to him. The verses from Isaiah that I had quoted during my ordination came back to my mind:

"The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,

to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
       to comfort all who mourn,

and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
       instead of ashes,
       the oil of gladness
       instead of mourning,
       and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair. "

I went to the nurse's desk and asked for his wife's room. She had just returned from surgery. Her small figure in the hospital bed was dwarfed by all the equipment surrounding her. She had a tube coming out of her mouth to help her breathe and tubes from her nose and stomach draining foul black liquid. The multiple IV lines emerged from her bed like plastic spaghetti.

Her little husband barely recognized her with all the equipment attached. He called her name and then asked me, "Is that her?" When I affirmed that it was her name on the door, he still looked lost. This was not new to me either. I have seen this reaction many times in the past. Family members often find themselves unable to relate to the lifeless, motionless body of their loved one. The body is so unlike it's former self that it almost seems like an imposter. I pulled up a chair and had him sit beside her. Then I pulled back the covers to reveal a small hand. It was a little bloated and puffy from all the fluid that had been poured into her to keep her alive but it was warm and when I placed his hand on top of hers I could feel him soften.

The next few hours he talked to me and to her. He recalled the beautiful life they shared. He was alternately angry, and sad and afraid...of being alone, of losing her, of her suffering. He also spoke tenderly of a life of love shared together....the travels while he was in the military, the hard times when they were first married, the accomplishments of their life. She never woke up but I told him I believe her spirit heard and felt him there. He agreed. When the time came for her to leave this world, emotion overwhelmed him. He said, " I don't want to see this but I don' t want her to be alone. I told him, "It is OK, I will stay with her" "You go" So he said "Good-bye, Edith" with tears in his eyes. I took her hand from him and he shuffled off as fast as his 92 year old frame could carry him.

Then I looked at Edith and said, "It's OK. You can go now. He is ready" and within 5 minutes her heart stopped. Her husband came back about 10 minutes later. I said, " It's over. She is gone." He asked what time it happened. I told him the time of death. He said" I knew it. Something told me to look at my watch right at that time" Then He asked me,"So, you used to do this all the time?" I said, "Yes." He said, "How could you stand it?...all the suffering?" I said," When I share the suffering, I also share the beauty." Tonight I shared the beauty of a 62 year marriage.

He smiled and nodded quietly. "Yes, I see there is good...even in pain"

I called my husband and he picked us up. It was snowing steadily when we left the hospital. The flakes were big and soft floating down from the sky. The ground was covered with white. I thought about how good our Mother and Father God are to their children. In every storm in our life, God creates a shelter and shows us the beauty...if we look for it.

'You have been a refuge for the poor,
a refuge for the needy in his distress,
       a shelter from the storm
and a shade from the heat. "

Isaiah 25:4

  Message

I heard someone the other day describe Thanksgiving as America's annual "festival of overeating". It sad to think that the day supposedly set aside for gratitude has instead become a day of gluttony. That is the opposite of the original intent. As I prepared the message last night, I became acutely aware of how this holiday has been transformed by our culture. I typed the word, "Thanksgiving" into Youtube looking for appropriate music for this message. I got videos of food, stop-motion cartoons of turkeys, the Macy's parade and lots of irreverent goofy stuff but very few videos about thankfulness. That is a far cry from the spirit of the first Thanksgiving celebration.

The original Thanksgiving in this country was a feast of gratitude for God's provision. The Pilgrims were truly thankful for a harvest that was adequate to survive the winter. They came together on that first Thanksgiving feast and shared the joy of God's bounty. They sang psalms of joy like the thanksgiving psalms in the scripture reading. In those psalms, you see the true spirit of thanksgiving. The writers exhort us to "shout for joy", sing praise continually and worship as an appropriate reaction to recognizing God's faithfulness and Divine provision.

It is difficult to find the essence of the first Thanksgiving in the modern US culture. Maybe that is because we are so far removed from the struggle for survival that those first Pilgrims endured. Here on the Hopi reservation, the elders tell a story about the beginning of this world that illustrates this point. The Hopis believe we are living in the fourth world. Each previous world was destroyed when man forgot the good ways. The first world was destroy by fire and a breaking up of the earth. The second world was destroyed by ice. The third world was destroyed by a flood. Each time a few survived to start the new world. According to the Hopi, we now live in the fourth world.

Hopi mythology tells of a time after the end of the third world when most people had died. However, some people, including some Hopi, had been spared. They had been kept safe until the Earth's surface was again habitable. When the Earth was ready, these humans emerged on land and were met by a being named Masaw, who was tilling the soil. Masaw offered the groups of people different kinds of corn by which they might make their livelihood in this new fourth world. While others grabbed for the biggest ears of corn, the Hopi deliberately chose the smallest ear of blue corn.

The wise old Hopi ancestors' selection of the little ear of blue corn symbolizes their intent to live a life that would be difficult. Their harvest would be small for their efforts. However, they believed that this is a life that endures. These ancient Hopi, fresh from the destruction of the third world, had observed that there are dangers inherent in an easy lifestyle. People become complacent, take their abundance for granted, and then lose their spiritual connection with the Source of their abundance.

The end result is that, over time, such people do not endure. Their greed leads them to hoard goods, ruin their environments and go to war with each other. Choosing a difficult life way...a way that requires much hard work for relatively small harvest, guards against greed by keeping people humble and grateful for what they have. To survive, such people must stay spiritually in tune with the Earth and keenly aware of the plants and animals around them; consequently, they endure beyond the lifetimes of the people who live easier lives.

Like the Hopi, the pilgrims lived in a harsh environment in which it required effort to survive. They were truly thankful for God's bounty. Out of that joy came a desire to come together. They had little but they wanted to share because they knew what it was like to do without. That is a great contrast to where we are in the United States today. We live in an age of selfishness because we have too much. The United States is a country of excesses. Even our landfills are overflowing. It is hard to appreciate what we have when there is even more all around us. TV ads and internet pop-ups keep reminding us of all the things we don't have and yet most of us already have more things than we need or can properly appreciate.

We were not created to be self-absorbed. We were created to be one with the One. We were all given life by the same Breath and placed in this creation to follow the same path ...The Way. There is no separateness in the Way. We are interconnected with all creation. When we lose the Way and start following our own path, it creates a disconnect with the Source. The Source is still there, but we have separated ourselves. We are not meant to be separate so we feel lonely and we do not know why. We try to fill the gap with things. It distracts us but does not fill the void so we look for more things.

What we really need is to return to the Source. Perhaps that is one of the lessons God has been teaching in the recent economic crisis. By removing some of our financial under-pinning, God brought us back to reality. It provided us all as a nation a chance to reassess what is truly important. This thanksgiving is the perfect time to reassess and recreate the true spirit of thanksgiving within us. My husband and I recently read that there are now 50 million people in this country who skip meals unwillingly. That number is the highest on record. More troubling is the fact that nearly one in four children in our country are not getting an adequate diet. Reading that caused us to rethink our blessings.

The psalms and scriptures above provide a good description of how to cultivate a heart of thanksgiving. The first step is realizing the Source of provision. As James said "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change" The one Divine Father and Mother is the Source. God is love and all good. He is the Sun and She is the Rain...faithful and everlasting. Finding the Source is the beginning of thankfulness. Out of that knowledge, pure Joy begins to germinate in the heart. Next, we must cultivate that joy by tending it every day. Spend quiet time connecting to the Source. Use this time to remember the good. Looking at the good allows joy and gratitude to spring up and grow strong in our heart. Lastly, as you daily tend the garden of thankfulness your heart, joy and gratitude will bear fruit in your life in both words and actions. This is the harvest of thanksgiving.

Like the Pilgrims shared their bounty with the natives, thankfulness always bears fruit. Living in a spirit of thankfulness brings great peace. You are happy for what you have instead of grabbing endlessly for what you don't have. "Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness." Those who realize they are blessed naturally want to extend blessings to others. I challenge you this Thanksgiving to cultivate the true spirit of thankfulness then look around you for what you can sow in the lives of others.

Put some thought and time into how you can celebrate Thanksgiving this year by sharing instead of just taking. If you want a starting point, I will share with you the plan that my husband and I came up with. As I said above, we were really touched when we read the article about hunger in the US. We have an abundance of food in our house and we had really forgotten what a blessing that is. So to remind us, we have been fasting for the past week and will continue to fast up to Thanksgiving day. Each day, we thank Mother and Father that we are CHOOSING to be hungry instead of having no choice. Then, we set aside all the food we would have eaten that day. We will give that food to a food bank in Flagstaff right before Thanksgiving. And on Thanksgiving day...I think we are really really going to be thankful for that meal.

Thanksgiving Thoughts

So now take a moment to review the good gifts you have been given, and think about the good gifts you can give. Remember, Thanksgiving is an action word.

I Give Thanks

Closing Prayer
As we end this service, let us reclaim the true spirit of Thanksgiving while we pray this ancient Essene prayer.

From the "Thanksgiving Psalms" of the Dead Sea Scrolls VI (iii. 19-36)

"I am grateful, Heavenly Father and Mother,

for You have raised me to an eternal height

and I walk in the wonders of the plain.

You gave me guidance to reach Your eternal

company from the depths of the earth.

You have purified my body

to join the army of the angels of the earth

and my spirit to reach

The congregation of the heavenly angels.

You gave man eternity

to praise at dawn and dusk

Your works and wonders

In joyful song."

Amen

Closing Hymn

The Greatest Commandment

4 For it is She that teaches the knowledge of God, and is the chooser of His works.

Wisdom of Solomon 6:13, 7:21-30, 8:1, 3-4

Message

I have always like the poem, The Road Not Taken, by Frost. It represents all the untraveled choices that are part of the human saga. We all have just one life to live and many possibilities. How can one person with a finite mind choose correctly from among all the paths that life offers? That is the crux of the poem. The answer is you can't. It is often not until many years later that we see the full repercussions of our choices. Sometimes we never see the true impact of the paths we choose. That is why the Frost poem ends on a melancholy note...."I shall be telling this with a sigh, somewhere ages and ages hence. Two roads diverged in a wood and I, I took the one less traveled by and that has made all the difference"

The point is that the physical mind only has limited capability to see. We are all limited by time, space and logic. If we journey through life only using the knowledge of the physical realm as our guide, we will be traveling through this existance with blinders on. We only see straight ahead and the road of life is not straight. There is much more to it than the physical. That is where the road starts to "bend in the undergrowth".

Fortunately, there is a Infinite knowledge in this world that knows all the paths. The Infinite One is all and knows all and has plotted out the correct path for each of us before our creation. The One is everything. She is Mother and He is Father. He is God Creator and She is Spirit Nurturer. The One is Yahweh and Shekinnah. The One is Lord and Sophia. The Infinite One has created a Way for the universe. Within that Way are the perfect unique paths for each individual.

There is a perfect path pre-designed for each human born into this creation. We were sent here for a purpose. Each of us has our own lessons and miracles to experience in this life. When the lesson is missed because we are too busy or too preoccupied, that lesson must be repeated. We also each have our own gifts, a piece of the Infinite within us. That innate Gift is our calling...what we are meant to share with the world. Since the Infinite is made up of much more than physical. We can only truly understand our Gift...who we are... with a Wisdom that goes beyond physical experience.

So how do we access Infinite understanding while we are encumbered with physical minds. The answer is we do not use our minds. Scripture says, those that are to know God must worship in "spirit and in truth" The Holy Spirit is Wisdom beyond the finite. She is the one that knows the path for us and can be our guide. She is Sophia. She speaks to us from a place that is beyond our mind's understanding. She is spirit and as such speaks to the spirit in us.

But to hear her, we must quiet the physical. The scripture also says to "Be still and know that I am God." That means we must tune out the noise of this world. We must slow down enough to "hear" and "see" with the Spirit. Wisdom is there. She is ready and waiting to share. She wants to guide you to the hidden beauty of each day.... past the bend in the road. But you have to be willing to walk with Her.

Closing Hymn

Let's take some time now to slow down and let Wisdom speak to the wisdom within us.

You Can Relax Now

Final Thoughts

On a cold January morning in a Washington, D.C. Metro Station, a violinist played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time about two thousand people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.

In the end, only 6 people stopped and listened for a short while. About 20 gave money, but continued to walk at their normal pace. The man collected a total of $32. When he finished playing, no one applauded, nor was there any recognition.

That violinist, Joshua Bell, is one of this nation's greatest musicians. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth $3.5 million dollars. Two days before this impromptu performance, Joshua Bell had sold out a theater in Boston. The price of the tickets for that concert averaged $100.

A columnist for the Washington Post had organized the metro station performance as a social experiment about perception, taste, and people's priorities. In a common place environment, at an inappropriate hour, do you perceive beauty? Do you stop to appreciate it? Do you recognize talent in an unexpected context? As you watch the video of the Metro Station experiment, consider what your actions might have been if you had been present on that winter morning in DC.

YouTube - Stop and Hear the Music

If you can not slow down for one moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world, playing some of the finest music ever written, what else are you missing?

Wisdom is calling you to take time to look and hear with your Spirit. Will you take the time for Wisdom to speak?

Closing Prayer

This closing prayer is taken from Wisdom of Solomon Chapter 9. These are the words that Solomon spoke when he prayed for Wisdom.

God of my fathers, and Lord of mercy who has made all things with Your word,

give me Wisdom that sits by Your throne.

Your Wisdom which knows Your works...was present when you made the world

and knew what was agreeable to Your eyes and what was right in Your commandments.

Send Her out of Your holy heaven, and from the throne of Your majesty that She may be with me.

For She knows and understands all things and shall lead me soberly in my works and shall preserve me by Her power.

So shall my works be acceptable... For who among men is he that can know the counsel of God?

Or who can think what the will of God is?

And who shall know Your thoughts except You give Wisdom and send Your Holy Spirit from above.

Amen

Further Reading

Read the Wisdom of Solomon (also known as the Book of Wisdom).

Source for the info on the Youtube video of Joshua Bell (Metro subway violinist) : Washington Post article

The water got increasingly deeper until it was so deep that he could not touch the bottom but, instead, he said at this point it was a river that "no man can cross". The implication was that if you were caught up in the flow at this point, there is no going back. However, he does not describe the flow of this river as an ominous thing. Where the river flows, there is healing and life.

Instead, the danger seems to come when the river flow stops. If there is no flow, the water becomes stagnant. If debris gets in the way of the flow, a swamp is created. The swamps and marshes harbor disease. There is no life when the river is stopped.

The metaphor of Divine Spirit flowing from the throne of God like water can be applied on a personal and a global basis. On the personal level, we are all children of our Father and Mother. In this metaphor, our Father is the Throne. He is the great "I am". He is the source. He is the immovable, impenetrable force of creation. Our Mother is the flowing water. She is the one who brings us healing and spiritual awareness. We were created with a thirst for the water of our Mother and Father. Each person has an innate desire to seek the Spirit.

Some get side-tracked in their search. An undercurrent pulls them away from the stream of Life. They get caught up in addictions or the lure of power or materialism. They mistake these emotional or physical experience as the end of their search. these misguided souls are looking for spiritual awareness in a swamp. Unless some kind person takes the time or interest to guide them back into the river of Life, the people in this group will never find what they really need.

There is another group that only get their feet wet in the river. This describes the majority of people. Their spirit calls them to search for the Divine but they don't want to go too far from the shore. These people want only to wash off the dust of the journey of through this life for a moment. They do not want to get too deep. They seek a shallow relationship with the Spirit in which they are refreshed but always have firm footing and can walk out quickly whenever they are ready.

Others seek a more complete communion with the Spirit. These people will walk out further into the stream of their relationship with the Divine. They walk out to knee deep or maybe even thigh deep waters. Their lives are still firmly planted in themselves. However, they allow themselves to be more completely cleansed, refreshed and made whole before they walk out of the stream.

Lastly, there are a lucky few who allow themselves to experience total immersion in a spiritual, life-changing experience. For those who swim out to the deepest waters, there is no turning back. At this point, this is a river that man can not cross. The best thing to do when the midst of this overwhelming current is go with the flow. Allow the river to take you to the Ocean....oneness with God.

Some have reached the point where they realize their feet don't touch bottom and they get scared. They think they wanted to be in control again. They try to swim back to shore. They want back their status quo "regular" life like "everyone else" that they left behind. The shore is too far away, however, and the water has transformed them. Even if they could make it back to shore, they don't fit there anymore.

Some try to go against the flow of God's will in their lives. They know they cannot go back to the shore but they try to swim upstream like a salmon. I tried that for a short time in my life. It does not work This river is too strong for that. Once you have been immersed the waters of Divine awareness, there is no turning back. Your eyes are opened. You can try to shut them but the water will just splash you in the face again. You can not go back to sleep once you have been fully awakened.

It is better and much more efficient to use your energy to swim with the flow. Allow the current to take you where you are meant to be. Find your place in the Divine plan. Along the way you will find healing and life and strength. That is the personal message of the Ezekial metaphor.

On the global level, all of humanity is part of the cosmic ocean. The water is all around us. The shores are just illusions that we make for ourselves. We think we are on firm ground...our place in this reality. However, even the hardest granite succumbs to the waves with the passing of time. Sometimes the change is almost imperceptible - a slow but constant wearing away of what was. Other times it comes crashing down in a giant tsunami and all that was once solid and unyielding crumbles

How do the waves of change occur? There is Divine will that calls to us all around us to be One and to consciously create good. Currents of goodness are all around us. When enough of humanity is captured by the flow of one of these currents, great things happen. A wave of goodness washes the shoreline of that civilization and permanently alters it.

Unfortunately there are also dangerous undertows and rip currents in the ocean of humanity. What can appear to be a good current can be altered and an entire society can either be brought down permanently or pulled into a swampy morass. The nation of Germany prior to WW II was caught up with the idea of nationalism. It appeared to be a good idea to help their nation heal from the wounds of the first world war. It lead to an ugly current and so many were caught up in this same wave, the strength of it almost destroyed them.

Our nation, the United States, was created when a critical mass of humanity caught the wave of two great beliefs, freedom and equality. Flowing with this current, created our strength and our diversity. Unfortunately there are some dangerous undertows in these waters as well. We have been led off course to believe freedom means we can do whatever we want to seek our own pleasure. That led us to a swamp of materialism. Now we are stuck in the mud of our own over-consumption. We are becoming increasingly aware of how hard it is to pull ourselves out.

Luckily, there is a new current flowing in some of our society today. It is a current that seeks to bond together for the greater good of mankind. I see it increasingly in the younger people. Maybe it is because they were raised in the midst of the "Me Generation" and see the fallacy of a self-centered life. For those of you who wondered how Barack Obama won the last election. That was his secret. He was able to put into words a set of beliefs that a critical mass of humanity was feeling flow through them. His message was hope, unity and working not for oneself, not for money but for the good of all.

When one lives in a cosmic ocean, reality isn’t fixed; it isn’t a given. Shared beliefs and perceptions form the raw material from which reality is made. When people gather to promote a cause, they make an agreement, silent or spoken, to become co-creators. A feeling of shared responsibility arises and at a subtle level their spirits align. This alignment is what is described in the Book of Acts when it says the believers were of "one heart and mind" This group consciousness was the trigger for a great wave of change that began this age of mankind.

A similar group consciousness occurred in the last election. You may not agree with the outcome of that election. You may not be happy how things have progressed since that election. However, the currents of change, the beautiful ideals that motivated those voters, are still present in this culture. Those ideals can stil be harnessed for good. Those of us who are spiritually aware, have the responsibility to find our place in this current. We must move with the spirit that is calling for good appropriate change in our society and create a new wave...a wave that can crash through the status quo... the powers that be... and re-create God's goodness in this world.

I invite you to join us in the river of Life. Walk in. Keep on walking until you feel the flow carry you away. Then start swimming with it. It is not too late. Don't get disillusioned by what you see around of you. If enough join in, We CAN create a wave strong enough to wash this nation out of the mud.

Closing Prayer

Father and Mother,

Gather us up in Your healing, cleansing stream.

Make us one with You

So that Your will may be done

On earth as it is in heaven

Amen

Closing Hymn

Let us find our place again with God before we leave our worship today. Listen to His name and feel Her spirit flow in you.

Yahweh

Final Thought

Whether you are a Republican or a Democrat, a Socialist or a Libertarian, there were some good ideals that our nation rallied around in the last election. I urge to put aside all partisanship at this time and watch this video with new eyes.

Recognize that this is the current of change that is flowing through our nation right now. We are in such a mess right now. We NEED the change.

Don't see the man. Listen to the thoughts expressed and search your spirit to find what you can do to help further the good ideals. Help us truly be one nation under God.

Yes, We Can

The world is learning what the Essenes knew all along. We must live at peace with the world and all it's creatures. No good comes from a destructive lifestyle.

The title to this article may seem a bit dramatic but according to a UK climate expert, it is pretty close to the mark. Lord Stern of Brentford is the former Chief Economist for the World Bank. He authored the influential 2006 Stern report on the cost of combating global warming. In an interview with The Times. Lord Stern stated that in order to be successful in the fight against climate change, people are going to have to become vegetarians.

So how does the carnivore diet endanger the world? Well it takes a lot of resources to raise animals. Compared to vegetables, it takes a lot of acreage and a lot of fossil fuels to create a pound of beef. Raising livestock is not an efficient system. Approximately eighty percent of the corn grown in the US is fed to livestock. A whole lot of animals have to be raised to feed a world full of carnivores. The cost to the planet increases with each carnivore. For more info on the impact of eating meat go to this article: Vegetarian vs Meat Eating: Statistics on Destruction of Body and Planet

To quote Lord Stern, “Meat is a wasteful use of water and creates a lot of greenhouse gases. It puts enormous pressure on the world’s resources. A vegetarian diet is better.”

Read the entire article here: Climate chief Lord Stern: give up meat to save the planet - Times Online

If you are interested in converting to a vegan diet but aren't sure how to start, here is the info you need. Article from the Times UK official, Lord Stern, claims that in order to be successful at combating global warming, people will need to become vegetarians. Lord stern is a former chief economist for the world bank and now a professor of economics. His remarks provoked anger from the meat industry. Su Taylor, a spokeswoman for the Vegetarian Society, welcomed Lord Stern’s remarks. “What we choose to eat is one of the biggest factors in our personal impact on the environment,”
