Climbing our Mountains - The Ascent to Health

mauna kea.jpg

Mauna Kea -  Big Island, Hawaii

"Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."

                                                                        ~World Health Organization, 1948

A main focus of the Essene lifestyle is health...how to create it, how to maintain it and how to optimize it. I searched the internet for a good definition of health to use as a standard or goal to be reached.  I found many definitions. None of them were completely satisfactory. I decided to quote the one above because I like the fact as early as 60 years ago, the World Health Organization had already realized that health is a holistic phenomenon, not just a physical state.  I also liked the recognition that a person can be free of disease but still not healthy.  However, while the World Health Organization only recognizes three attributes of human existence: physical (the body) mental (the intellect) and social (the emotions), As an Essene, we also recognize the whole person has a spirit... that part that connects with the Divine.

As pastor of Ho'omana Health Ministries, I created this blog to help maintain the health of our church family. If we are to help other achieve health and wholeness, we must first find it within ourselves. This blog was meant to help achieve that goal of health and a whole and abundant life.  After reading the definition of health above, you can see it is sort of an overwhelming task! It's a pretty tall order to create a guide to "complete physical, mental and social and spiritual well-being."

One thing I have learned is that in any difficult task, attitude is half the battle. A friend of mind once told me a story that is a good illustration of the importance of correct attitude. I used to live on the Big Island of Hawaii.  One of my friends there, Delia, decided she was going to drive to the top of Mauna Kea. In case you didn't know, Mauna Kea is one of the volcanic mountains on the Big Island. It is 13,796 feet high.  Delia had read in a travel book that it was possible to reach the top in a 4 wheel drive vehicle.  So she got into her little Toyota RAV and started driving up the mountain. She arrived at the visitor's information center at 9200 feet and stayed there 30 minutes to acclimatize to the high altitude as the travel book advised. She then started on up the road to the summit.

The road got steep. My friend started to get nervous.  She thought about the fact that she was all alone. She began to worry. The wind was blowing against her little car. It sounded to her like the engine was straining. What if the car broke down? Maybe this was too big a feat for one woman alone in a Toyota Rav?. The car began to go slower and slower. She got more worried. The Rav was barely crawling up the mountain now. It seemed to be stuttering. She stopped on the side of the road trying to decide what to do. Just about the time she was going to turn around, someone drove up in a big Jeep. Delia waited for them to go by so she could turn around. The Jeep stopped. A couple came out and asked her if anything was wrong. Delia explained to them that she did not think her Rav could make it up so she was going to turn around. The couple encouraged her to go on. The man said, "Of course you can make it! I tell you what, we will follow behind you. If you have any problem, we'll be there for you." My friend decided to try again. She got in the Rav and started up the mountain again. This time, she said that the car did fine! It did not seem to be straining any more. It didn't slow down on her like it had before and she made it to the top of Mauna Kea and the view was beautiful. Since that time, Delia has driven to the top of Mauna Kea five times without any back up vehicle! Every time someone comes to visit her, she takes them up to see the view.

I love this story. It is such a great illustration of the power of correct attitude and the power of a good support system. Delia started out with a great goal. Everything was fine until she started to doubt her ability to achieve that goal. All of a sudden, the car seemed to malfunction. Then the couple came and encouraged and supported her. She started to believe in herself again and the car started working again. The problem was never the car. The problem was her own timidity in driving the car because of her fear and doubt. Once she made it to the top with the help of the other couple, she did not need support anymore. She was able to drive to the top on her own and bring others with her.

In your pursuit of health- wholeness of body, soul, mind and spirit- you may find you have some pretty big mountains to climb. I am here to support you... to help you make it to the top of your personal mountains. Once you get there, you won' t need me anymore. Then it will be your turn to take others.

Opening Prayer

Our Father and Mother who are in heaven
and around us and within us
Thank you for creating us and sustaining us
and for sending your only begotten son, Yeshua,
the first-born of many brethren
to guide us through this Creation in the Way
that leads us to You.
As we gathered together this Sabbath to honor You,
We ask Your blessing
Guide our hearts and minds
and allow us to leave this place with a closer understanding of You.

Scripture Reading

 7:26 For Sophia is a reflection of eternal light
a spotless mirror of the working God,
 and an image of his goodness.
27 Although she is but one, she can do all things
and while remaining in herself, she renews all things;
and makes them friends of God and prophets,
28 for God loves nothing so much as the person who lives with wisdom (Sophia)
29 She is more beautiful than the sun
and excels every constellation of the stars
compared with the light she is  found to be superior
30 for it is succeeded by the night
but against wisdom, evil does not prevail
8:1 She reaches mightily from one end of the earth to the other
and she orders all things well. Wisdom of Solomon 7:26-8:1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

 6There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. 7He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. 8He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.

 14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only,who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1: 1-14

16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— 17the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept her, because it neither sees her nor knows her. But you know her, for she lives with you and will be in you. 18I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. ...

 25"All this I have spoken while still with you. 26But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

John 14

 Message

In the last Sabbath message, we reviewed why Essene Christians view the Holy Spirit as feminine. We related that Father and Mother God created families on earth as a visual model for us of the Godhead - the family of God. The Godhead consists of Father and Mother God who are the Masculine and Feminine elements of the divine. Yeshua is the only begotten son of the Godhead. He is the child in the heavenly family of God. The exciting part is that the scriptures say he is the firstborn of many brethren. That means there are other children in this family. We are also created in the image and likeness of God. We are also Father and Mother's children. We are the little brothers and sisters of Yeshua. We are part of the family.

In the most recent era of history, however, our Mother has been hidden from us. Religious authorities have down-played Her and tried to obscure Her importance in our life. They turned Her into a neutral sexless force or a part of the Father. In the process, we became motherless children. Don't misunderstand. She was there, nurturing us all along. But we were hindered from having a close relationship with Her. She was veiled  and insulated in layers of disguising language. So we never got to see Her lovely face or feel the warmth of Her motherly breasts and soft gentle embrace.

This neutering of our Mother is a modern and relatively recent phenomenon. All ancient cultures had a better understanding of the Divine Feminine. We see remnants of this understanding in traditional beliefs and myths of the past. Ancient myths of Egypt, Greece, India, Polynesia, etc all have stories of a great mother. She was given many names. In India, She was Shakti, mother of the universe. In Buddhism She is Prajnaparamita or in human manifestation as Kuan Yin. In Egypt she was Isis, the ideal mother and wife. She is the yin in the Chinese symbol of yin/yang -the two interfacing complementing forces of black and white. She is the black, yielding, female, receptive nurturing yin force.

In Jewish tradition, the feminine side of the Godhead is called Shekhinah which means literally Divine Presence. In some texts of the Old Testament and the the Apocrypha, our Mother is called Wisdom. As we read above, the Christian gnostics called Her  "Sophia", the Greek word for Wisdom or Pistis Sophia meaning "Faith-Wisdom".

Later, as our society became more patriarchal and male dominated, Sophia and Shekhinah were obscured from us. The Holy Spirit (Known as pnuema in Greek, a feminine word) had no body. She was changed to a He or It. Sophia was lost in translation but not entirely...not if you knew what to look for. Sophia can still be found in the passages like the one we read above from Apocrypha. She is also in the Old Testament in passages that use the word "wisdom"  referring to the Mother. Logos, the "word" of God, is the Greek masculine form of Sophia and equivalent to WISDOM. It refers to God's creative energy; mediator between God & creation.

We read in John 1:1-3 "In the beginning was the Word (logos), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being."
A more correct translation would describe  "the Word" as SHE, not HE, the feminine principle of God.

Even though the feminine side of God has been hidden for a long time, people still craved a mother. As all children do, we innately seek our Mother. This explains the devotion given to Mary, the mother of Yeshua. She was a visible symbol of our Mother God. Our Holy Spirit Mother is not pushy. She is not aggressive. She wants a relationship with us but she will not force herself on us. She will make herself known in whatever form is acceptable to us. I believe this is why so many devout people have had visions of Mary or feminine angels coming to them with messages. Our Mother chose to speak to those who sought a feminine Divine Counsel in a form that would be  understood and acceptable to the seeker.

It is time now, however, to get to know Her as Herself - without the veil. The Holy Spirit Mother was in Mary, mother of Yeshua but she is much more than mother Mary. She is Sophia. She encompasses all things feminine. She is our Counselor and our Comforter. She is our Mother, our spouse and our sister. Sophia’s work is to raise up the Father’s creation, restoring it to its original form. The Father created it, the Son, Yeshua, redeemed it, and Sophia, the Holy Spirit, raises it up, restores it, renews it, bringing it back to its original unity of love with the Father.

Sophia raised up Yeshua, the Christ (which means "Anointed One"). He was made in the likeness of the Father and anointed with the Spirit of the Mother. The process began with his conception, filling him with wisdom and grace (Luke 2:52). Then at his baptism “the Holy Spirit descended on him in visible form like a dove.” (Luke 3:22) When he began his ministry he quoted Isaiah referring to himself, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me; therefore he has anointed me. He has sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives, recovery of sight to the blind and release to prisoners.” (Luke 4:18) These passages show us that he was not only filled with the Holy Spirit, but also with what are called the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.

In Isaiah, we are given a list of the traditional Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit: Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety and Fear of the Lord. In 1 Corinthians, Paul lists: Wisdom, Knowledge, Faith, Healing, Miraculous Powers, Prophecy, Discernment, Tongues and Interpretation of Tongues as gifts of the Holy Spirit. All these gifts dwelt and functioned within Jesus.

Now, Sophia raises us up in the same manner. We are birthed by Her into the family of God at our baptism and become full members of the family in our confirmation. When we grow in understanding we are filled with the indwelling of Sophia who gives us the above gifts. That is what gives us power to live in the Way. It is the power that will lead us little by little into the fullness of our lives as Essene Christians. The presence of Sophia, given to all of us for the common good (1 Cor 12:7), is visibly manifested and present through Her gifts.

Sophia's gifts are often referred to as an anointing. In the ancient days people were anointed with oil as a blessing and as a healing. Anointing with Sophia, the Holy Spirit, is the ultimate blessing and healing. It is the restoration of our souls by God. It is the healing of a mothers love. In one place in the scriptures this anointing is referenced as the "Balm in Gilead"

I invite you now to close your eyes as you listen to this beautiful old hymn and allow our Mother to visit you right now. Feel the anointing of Her beautiful spirit and allow Her to heal and restore your soul.

Softly and tenderly our Mother’s calling,
        calling for you and for me;
        The Holy Spirit is patiently waiting,
        waiting for you and for me.

        Come home, come home;
        you who are weary come home;
        So very gently Sophia is calling,
        calling Her children, come home!

        Why should we wait when our Mother is pleading,
        pleading for you and for me?
        Why should we linger and heed not Her mercies,
        mercies for you and for me?

        Come home, come home;
        you who are weary come home;
        So very gently Sophia is calling,
        calling her children, come home!

        Run to Her arms, She holds them wide open,
        Open for you and for me;
        To give us comfort and teach us Her wisdom,
        wisdom for you and for me.

        Come home, come home;
        you who are weary come home;
        So very gently Sophia is calling,
        calling her children, come home…
        calling her children, come home

 Opening Prayer

 I and the Father are one
All that I am is within the Father
All that is in the Father is within me.
Father, my Creator and Strength,
I seek to know you and understand your ways
and in the process, learn who I am as well.
I and the Mother are one,
All that I am is within the Mother
All that is in the Mother, is within me.
Mother, my Comforter and Nurturing Spirit,
I come into your arms seeking your wisdom and love
because within You is my true self.
Yeshua, as we remember this Sabbath and keep it holy,
guide us to our true Father and Mother
along the path you call the Way

Scripture Reading

 26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth,  and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

 27 So God created man in his own image,
       in the image of God he created him;
       male and female he created them.

Genesis 1:26-27

 Wisdom is known by Her children Matthew 11:19

 1 Does not wisdom call out?
       Does not understanding raise her voice?

 2 On the heights along the way,
       where the paths meet, she takes her stand;

 3 beside the gates leading into the city,
       at the entrances, she cries aloud:

 4 "To you, O men, I call out;
       I raise my voice to all mankind.

 5 You who are simple, gain prudence;
       you who are foolish, gain understanding.

 6 Listen, for I have worthy things to say;
       I open my lips to speak what is right.

 7 My mouth speaks what is true,
       for my lips detest wickedness.

 8 All the words of my mouth are just;
       none of them is crooked or perverse.

 9 To the discerning all of them are right;
       they are faultless to those who have knowledge.

 10 Choose my instruction instead of silver,
       knowledge rather than choice gold,...

 ...15 By me kings reign
       and rulers make laws that are just;

 16 by me princes govern,
       and all nobles who rule on earth.

 17 I love those who love me,
       and those who seek me find me.

 18 With me are riches and honor,
       enduring wealth and prosperity.

 19 My fruit is better than fine gold;
       what I yield surpasses choice silver.

 20 I walk in the way of righteousness,
       along the paths of justice,

 21 bestowing wealth on those who love me
       and making their treasuries full.

 22 "The LORD brought me forth as the first of his works,
       before his deeds of old;

 23 I was appointed  from eternity,
       from the beginning, before the world began.

 24 When there were no oceans, I was given birth,
       when there were no springs abounding with water;

 25 before the mountains were settled in place,
       before the hills, I was given birth,

 26 before he made the earth or its fields
       or any of the dust of the world.

 27 I was there when he set the heavens in place,
       when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep,

 28 when he established the clouds above
       and fixed securely the fountains of the deep,

 29 when he gave the sea its boundary
       so the waters would not overstep his command,
       and when he marked out the foundations of the earth.

 30 Then I was the craftsman at his side.
       I was filled with delight day after day,
       rejoicing always in his presence,

 31 rejoicing in his whole world
       and delighting in mankind.

 32 "Now then, my sons, listen to me;
       blessed are those who keep my ways.

 33 Listen to my instruction and be wise;
       do not ignore it.

 34 Blessed is the man who listens to me,
       watching daily at my doors,
       waiting at my doorway.

 35 For whoever finds me finds life
       and receives favor from the LORD.

 36 But whoever fails to find me harms himself;
       all who hate me love death."

Message

Today, I am inviting you to a closer relationship with our Holy Spirit Mother. In traditional Christianity, the Holy Spirit is a very allusive presence. She is recognized as part of the Godhead but never really given Her due as a person and certainly not as our Mother. She IS, however, the one true feminine Divine. She is as equal a part of the totality of God as our Father God.

 Why is it important to understand the Holy Spirit as our Mother? What difference does it make? Well it is important because it effects our relationship with Her as Her children. It is difficult to be close to Her if you do not understand Her. It is rather easy to have a close relationship to Yeshua. Much of His life here on earth is documented, and we can relate to His struggles because he was a person like us. It is also easy to feel close to the Father because each of us can visualize a father in our minds. Even if we did not have a close relationship with our own fathers, we understand how a loving caring father SHOULD  be and we use that ideal as a basis for our relationship with our Father God. But how can a person feel close to a dove...or a body-less, sexless spirit? When we refer to Holy Spirit, Mother as a power or an invisible force, we separate our selves from any close personal relationship with Her. We do not do Her justice or give Her the honor and devotion that She is due as our Mother.

Traditional Christianity has always accepted the fact that there were three persons in the Godhead. The trinity has always been known as Father God, Holy Spirit, and the son of God, Yeshua. This is the family of God. At one time in history it was understood that to be a family there must be Father, MOTHER and child. It was implicit in the understanding of the Godhead that the Holy Spirit is the Mother. The Spirit was described with feminine gendered words and given decidedly feminine attributes. As society became increasingly patriarchal, however, the emphasis changed to a male trinity. This was man's idea - not God's.

  In our scripture reading, it stated that God made us in His/Her own image. Therefore, God created us male and female...on earth as it is in Heaven. No family is complete without a mother. This the natural way. This is the way our Father and Mother ordained it. Just as there are three in the Family in Heaven, Father God, Holy Spirit Mother, and the only begotten child, the Father and Mother created a model for us to understand here in this world...on  earth as it is in heaven. This world, God's creation, is meant to be our school - a place to teach us God's natural law. All around us as we look at nature, we learn of the natural order of things and learn more about God in the process. The most fundamental lesson that the Father and Mother want to teach us is about their divine nature...the divine Masculine and the Divine Feminine. So they made us in Their image and put a bit of themselves within us.

 In the Holy Scriptures, there our many names for our Holy Spirit Mother just as there are many names for the Father. He is Yahweh or Jehovah. He is also called Lord, Elohim, Adonai, and El Shaddai. Each name presents a different attribute of the Father. There is one name that predominates however, it is Yahweh - I am that I am. There are also many names for the Mother. She is called Shekkinah, Comforter, Dove, the Oil of Gladness. There is one name that predominates for Her as well. She is strongly associated with the Spirit of Wisdom. The old Testament word for wisdom is "chokmah" which has the feminine ending (of course). The Greek word for wisdom is Sophia (also feminine). This is the name we, Essenes, most frequently connect to our Holy Spirit, Mother. This is the One that is speaking to us in the Proverb above. Wisdom - Sophia- is calling to Her children.

The connection between the Holy Spirit and Sophia is even more pronounced in the Apochrypha. The Apochrypha are holy writings that are not included in the modern Bible. Consider these exerpts from Wisdom of Solomon Chapter 7

"For Sophia is a loving Spirit...For the Spirit of the Lord filleth the world."

For Sophia, which is the worker of all things, taught me." "in Her is an understanding Spirit, holy, one only...she is the breath of the power of God, and a pure influence flowing from the Almighty...she maketh all things new and in all ages entering into holy souls, she maketh them friends of God and prophets. For God loveth none but him that dwelleth in Sophia."

"And Thy counsel who hath known, except Thou give Sophia, and send Thy Holy Spirit from above?"

So now that we have affirmed we have a Mother and we can call Her by Name, let us worship Sophia.

Closing Prayer

Sophia, Holy Spirit Mother, You are the one who calls creation to Yourself. You are the one who births us into new life at our baptism.  You are the one who renews our minds and guides us in your Wisdom. We praise you. We love you and we welcome you into our lives,

The Legend of Mary Magdalene and the Paschal Egg

magdalene_w_egg.jpg

Ever wonder where the whole Easter egg idea came from? Some say it is just an appropriate symbol of new life. Many speculate it was a pagan spring rite that was incorporated into the Catholic church. There is a traditional story that has been passed down over the ages, however, that tells a provides a different answer. It links the paschal egg to Mary Magdalene.

Mary Magdalene is mentioned in the Gospels as being among the women
of Galilee who followed Jesus and His disciples. She was present at His Crucifixion and Burial, and went to the tomb on Easter Sunday to anoint His body. She was the first to see the Risen Lord, and to announce His Resurrection to the apostles. Accordingly, she is referred to in early Christian writings as "the apostle to the apostles."

The Gospels relate that Mary was Yeshua's  constant companion and followed Him on his journeys during his ministry. She went with Yeshua through the cities and villages of Judea and Galilee while He proclained the Kingdom of God. Together with other pious women -- Joanna, wife of Khuza (steward of Herod), Susanna and others, she served Him from her own possessions (Luke 8:1-3).

The Gospel relates that Mary Magdalene was present on Golgotha at the moment of the Lord's
Crucifixion. While all the other disciples of the Savior ran away, she remained fearlessly at the cross together with His Mother and the Apostle John.
Others are also mentioned among those standing at the cross. In all of the accounts, however, Mary Magdalene is mentioned first.

She remained faithful to Yeshua not only in the days of His Glory, but also at the moment of His extreme humiliation and agony. As the Evangelist Matthew relates, "she was present at the burial of the Lord." Before her eyes Joseph and Nikodemos went out to the tomb with His lifeless body; before her eyes they covered over the entrance to the cave with a large stone, behind which went the Sun of Life. She was one of the last to see Yeshua’s body after His death and the first to see His resurrected body. She rushed to the tomb early Sunday morning to anoint his body and was greeted by a risen Lord.

Holy Scripture does not tell us about the life of Mary Magdalene after the resurrection of the Messiah. It is reasonable to assume, though, that this woman who refused to leave Yeshua during the terrifying moments of His crucifixion would have undoubtedly been present during the time after the Resurrection and Ascension. In the Book of the Acts of the Apostles, Luke writes: that all the Apostles with one mind stayed in prayer and supplication. It can be assumed that Mary Magdalene was among them.

Holy Tradition testifies, that when the Apostles departed from Jerusalem for preaching to all the ends of the earth, Mary Magdalene went with them to preach. A daring woman, whose heart was still full of reminiscence of the Resurrection, she traveled beyond her native borders to preach in pagan Rome. Everywhere she went, she proclaimed to people about Christ and His Teaching,

Tradition relates, that in Italy Mary Magdalene visited the Emperor Tiberias (14-37 AD) and proclaimed to him about Christ's Resurrection. According to tradition, she took him an egg as a symbol of the resurrection, a symbol of new life with the words: "Christ is Risen!"
Then she told Tiberias  the story of Yeshua the Nazarene
, a holy man, a maker of miracles, powerful before God and all mankind. She explained how He had been executed on the instigation of the Jewish High-Priests and the sentence affirmed by the procurator Pontius Pilate. Then she told of the resurrection.

Tiberias responded that no one could rise from the dead, anymore than the egg that Mary held could turn red. Miraculously, the egg immediately began to turn red as testimony to her words. Tiberias was convinced. He had Pilate removed from Jerusalem to Gaul. Pilate  later
suffered a horrible sickness and an agonizing death.

According to this traditional story, this miracle of Mary Magdalene was the origin of  the custom of giving paschal eggs. To commemorate this miracle, Christians began to give eggs colored red to each other on the day of the Luminous Resurrection of Christ. The custom spread among Christians over all the world and apparently, other colors besides red were used.

There is a prayer on an ancient hand-written Greek ustav, written on parchment, kept
in the monastery library of Saint Athanasias near Thessalonika (Solunea), that was read on the day of Holy Pascha (Easter) for the blessing of eggs and cheese, in which it is
indicated, that the Hegumen (Abbot) in passing out the blessed eggs says to the brethren:

"Thus have we received from the holy fathers, who preserved this custom from the very time of the holy apostles, wherefore the holy equal-unto-the- apostles Mary Magdalene first showed believers the example of this joyful offering."

Do This In Remembrance of Me
During this Sabbath service of Passover, we will be celebrating the rite of communion that was initiated by our Lord Yeshua during what is commonly known as the "last supper". This last supper was the passover meal that Yeshua celebrated with his disciples before his crucifixion. Those who worship by distance are welcome to participate in the communion service as well. Please have red wine or grape juice and a piece of matzoh or unleavened, unsalted bread available to consume at 12:30 Pacific time.

Opening Hymn

Baruch Haba B'shem Adonai

Opening Prayer

Blessed are you, O God our Father who created the Sabbath and leads your children out of bondage into the promised land.
Blessed are you, O Holy Spirit Mother, who gives us comfort in the wilderness, and who guides us  with the light with your Wisdom.
Blessed are you, Yeshua, Son of Man, who made the Way available to us through your sacrifice.

 Scripture Reading

Psalm 113

 1 Praise the LORD.
       Praise, O servants of the LORD,
       praise the name of the LORD.

 2 Let the name of the LORD be praised,
       both now and forevermore.

 3 From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets,
       the name of the LORD is to be praised.

 4 The LORD is exalted over all the nations,
       his glory above the heavens.

 5 Who is like the LORD our God,
       the One who sits enthroned on high,

 6 who stoops down to look
       on the heavens and the earth?

 7 He raises the poor from the dust
       and lifts the needy from the ash heap;

 8 he seats them with princes,
       with the princes of their people.

 9 He settles the barren woman in her home
       as a happy mother of children.
       Praise the LORD.

Psalm 114

 1 When Israel came out of Egypt,
       the house of Jacob from a people of foreign tongue,

 2 Judah became God's sanctuary,
       Israel his dominion.

 3 The sea looked and fled,
       the Jordan turned back;

 4 the mountains skipped like rams,
       the hills like lambs.

 5 Why was it, O sea, that you fled,
       O Jordan, that you turned back,

 6 you mountains, that you skipped like rams,
       you hills, like lambs?

 7 Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord,
       at the presence of the God of Jacob,

 8 who turned the rock into a pool,
       the hard rock into springs of water.

Message

The two psalms that we read today are routinely read at the Passover Seder. They are psalms of praise to Father/Mother God for the great reversal of fortune that Passover commemorates. One moment the Hebrews were slaves and the next they were free. The "needy" were lifted from the  "ash heap." This is the great message of this day. The Father/Mother protects, saves, and guides the chosen ones to a new life.

The first passover was the ending of an era. The Egyptian priests had developed a religion that provided the rulers and themselves with absolute power and enslaved others. The Father and Mother could not allow such a system to continue. A path to a new world was created. However, the transition from one world paradigm to another is never easy. It is like a birth and before any birth, there are birthing pains. There were the 10 plagues culminating in the pass over sacrifice of the firstborn. After that, the Hebrew children wandered for 40 years in the wilderness while time and trials winnowed out the true chosen ones... the ones destined to cross Jordan to the promised land.

Unfortunately, through man's corruption, the promised land quickly reverted to status quo. For a short while, Isreal was a country ruled by Father God and His Bride, Shekinah would descend upon the tabernacle to commune with Her children. Then the Hebrews decided they needed a king like all other countries. And the priest built a temple and a worship system that provided them with status and power. There remained a few that did not submit to the new system. There is always a remnant...the chosen ones. These Essenes stayed separate and apart. They continued to worship Father and Mother God in an un-corrupt manner away from the temple in Jerusalem. Their communities were scattered about Judea in the desert, at Mount Carmel and to the north in Nazareth.

Out of their ranks, Father and Mother sent their Essence in Human form, Yeshua, to usher in yet another new era. Again, the change did not come easily. This time it required the crucifixion of Yeshua, martyrdom of his disciples, and eventually the destruction of Jerusalem and its corrupt temple. The old things passed away, and all became new (again).

Then once again, man intervened. The Roman Empire adopted the Christian religion. The council of Nicea tried to make the diverse independent communities of believers into a uniform church. They formed a set of beliefs and Holy Scripture, by committee and compromise. This set the foundation for one Catholic church. Whenever one group has a monopoly on a commodity, there is corruption. In this case the commodity was eternal life. This has always been the ultimate commodity and can create absolute power. Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

As always, our Father and Mother God maintain a remnant of truth in this world. Holy words remained in the scripture in spite of the committees. And the Holy words that were removed were hidden in caves in the desert by the chosen ones to be unearthed at the correct moment...to pave the way for the next new era.

That era is now upon us. The birthing pains have started. Yeshua spoke of some of the preparatory pains required. He said, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places." He also said There will be great...pestilence and fearful events and great signs from heaven."  The war in Iraq and Afghanistan,  increase in natural disasters, even the economic collapse of this past year are just labor pains.

Past is prologue. As in previous world paradigm shifts, Father and Mother have put in place the chosen ones. They are the enlightened ones whose eyes are opened or will be opened shortly. They will be be protected through the pestilence by the Father and guided through the wilderness by the light of the Mother and will cross into the next promised land. Old things will pass away and all will become new...again.

I invite you now to close your eyes and quietly thank our Father and Mother for opening your eyes.

Communion Prayer

Father God, as we prepare to eat the bread of communion with You, we are reminded of Your bountiful provision for Your children.

Holy Spirit Mother, as we prepare to drink the blessed wine, we are reminded of the blessing of Your presence poured out upon us.

Lord Yeshua, as we fulfill Your command to partake in this act, we do so in remembrance of Your sacrifice that made the Way available to us.

 Communion

While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and eat; this is my body."

(Break a piece of Matzah and eat.)

Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. 28This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father's kingdom."
(Pour wine into cup, take a sip, pass to others)

 Closing Prayer

                                   Our Father and Mother
who are in heaven,
and around us
and within us,
 Holy is Your name.
Your Kingdom is upon us,
as is Your will.
You are here on earth
and in the heavens.
 We are never in need
because You always provide.
By forgiving our mistakes,
You have taught us to forgive others.
You lead Your children
in the path of light.
And guide us away
from the darkness.
Because Your Kingdom
and power, and glory
are within us.
Amen

Red Meat Consumption Leads to Death

Science continues to confirm the wisdom of a mainly vegetarian diet. This Science Daily news article summarizes the results of a 10 year research study. The findings: Red and processed meat consumption increases mortality (also known as death). This study was not done by a pro-vegetarian or vegan research group. In fact, one of the doctors interviewed felt there were still health benefits to meat consumption. Yet even this group had to concede that : "There is a global tsunami brewing, namely, we are seeing the confluence of growing constraints on water, energy and food supplies combined with the rapid shift toward greater consumption of all animal source foods." Yes, along with the health consequences, there are also environmental consequences to the animal based diet of our culture. As each day passes and more is learned about those consequence, the wisdom of the peaceable vegetarian lifestyle of the ancient Essenes is revealed. Eating Red And Processed Meat Associated With Increased Risk Of Death Individuals who eat more red meat and processed meat appear to have a modestly increased risk of death from all causes and also from cancer or heart disease over a 10-year period, according to a new article. The one-fifth of men and women who ate the most red meat (a median or midpoint of 62.5 grams per 1,000 calories per day) had a higher risk for overall death, death from heart disease and death from cancer than the one-fifth of men and women who ate the least red meat

BARABBAS' ACCOUNT OF THE LAST WORDS OF JESUS

Excerpt from Jesus the Son of Man by Kahlil Gibran

THEY RELEASED ME and chose Him. Then He rose and I fell. And
they held Him a victim and a sacrifice for the passover. I was freed
from my chains, and walked with the throng behind Him, but I was a
living man going to my own grave.

I should have fled to the desert where shame is burned out by the
sun. Yet I walked with those who had chosen Him to bear my crime.

When they nailed Him on His cross I stood there. I saw and I heard
but I seemed outside of my body.

The thief who was crucified on His right said to Him, "Are you
bleeding with me, even you, Jesus of Nazareth?" And Jesus answered
and said, "Were it not for this nail that stays my hand I would reach
forth and clasp your hand. "We are crucified together."

Then He looked down and gazed upon His mother and a young man who
stood beside her. He said, "Mother, behold your son standing beside
you. "Woman, behold a man who shall carry these drops of my blood to
the North Country."

And when he heard the wailing of the women of Galilee He
said, "Behold, they weep and I thirst. "I am held too high to reach
their tears. "I will not take vinegar and gall to quench this
thirst."

Then His eyes opened wide to the sky and He said in compassion, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."

When He uttered those words I thought I saw all men prostrated before
God beseeching forgiveness for the crucifixion of this one man. Then
again He said with a great voice: "Father, into Thy hand I yield back
my spirit."

And at last He lifted up His head and said, "Now it is finished, but
only upon this hill." And He closed His eyes. Then lightning cracked
the dark skies, and there was a great thunder.

 I know now that those who slew Him in my stead achieved my endless
torment. His crucifixion endured but for an hour. But I shall be
crucified unto the end of my years.

Why the Current World System will end

If I could, I would set the whole world down in an easy chair, give them a nice cup of tea and have them watch this video with me. I would be happy to watch it again as I learn something every time. At first glance, the speaker may seem a little boring. However, I encourage you to continue to listen to what he has to say. After a few minutes, if you really listen, you will be enthralled and amazed.

The professor makes a very articulate argument using common sense and statistics. He explains explicitly how the present world system is not sensible or sustainable. It WILL have to end. It also is evident that it will end sooner than later. The only choice we have is to either be proactive and prepare or do nothing, continue on with our everyday lives and allow the change to happen to us.

The time leading up to the birth of this new era will be difficult. We are already going through the early labor pains. The pains will get worse and the birth will most likely be messy.

As Essenes, we believe we were chosen to be here at this momentous time by Divine selection to help usher in this new era. We are like midwifes assisting with the birth. We are watching the signs, preparing our tools and gathering supplies, and preparing to help creation and those around us as the world transforms.

YouTube - The Most IMPORTANT Video You'll Ever See (part 1 of 8)

On first glance, this speaker does not seem very exciting. If you allow yourself to get into the lecture, however, the professor makes a very convincing, compelling argument. He uses common sense and statistics to explain why our present economic system is not only unwise but also unsustainable. This lecture explains why things WILL change in the very near future. Our only choice is to either be proactive and prepare for the change or to stand by and allow events to happen to us. As Essenes, I believe we were carefully chosen by Divine selection to prepare the world for the new era that is upon us. It will be a difficult time. Whenever anything new is born, there are birthing pains. There is hard work ahead. As Essenes, we are to be like midwifes, preparing the world and those around us for the birth of a new era. We are to watch the signs, make ready the necessary tools to be of help, and ease the birth pains.
